On Thursday Merlin Pete et al organised a dig at the quarry/dump near Silloth.
Can anyone assist with the confirmation of the identity of the parts shown below:
1. Curved piece – Stamped L8 2827592H made from Type 302 stainless with white/dark Sea Grey paint ( photo DSC 15/18)
2. Firewall – marked 252086 BR786 with BW . 8 inspection stamp

3. Whitley wing and fuel filler(?)

4. B25 engine cowl bearer? stamped 82 32086-2 inspection stamp FBDS 110 ( photo 39)
Also several turnbuckles from Harvard marked ANA.

Although it may carry a MKI part number does not mean it is MKI if the design was not changed the part number remained the same throughy the MKs.

Sounds like the Spit from Ill Crag on Scafell. I think it was a bubble canopy one. I know Merlin Pete has been up there.

Looks like Spitfire part number to me 346 = Spitfire MKI Merlin II
08 = Bottom outer main planes

Wasdale Mountain Rescue team find
A member of the above team gave me this piece of wreckage many miles from any known crash sites yesterday. I thought it looked military as there is an Anson above Cam Spout Crag on the S. side of Scafell and a Spitfire on Ill Crag nearby.
The only others nearby were civvy (a Cherokee on Esk Hause and an Arrow on Bowfell) but this was found way, way South west of either of these sites.
As you can see, there is green paint on one of the skins. It has probably been blown or carried there.
