Passengers forced to evacuate United 777

Passengers on a United Airlines flight at O’Hare were forced to evacuate down emergency slides Friday afternoon.

United Airlines Flight 836 from Shanghai was evacuated after the pilot reported an emergency in the cabin. The pilot reported the emergency at 3:45 p.m. The plane landed at 4 p.m. The passengers slid down the emergency chutes and were taken by bus to the terminal. There were 258 passengers, four pilots and 11 crew members on board.

One passenger was taken to an area hospital for treatment, said United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy, who did not know the hospital or passenger’s condition.

Fire department scanner traffic indicated that there was smoke in the cabin. The plane was seen near Runway 10 with all of its inflatable slides deployed.

The Boeing 777 jet was evacuated as a “safety precaution.

Officials did not know the cause of the smoke.

Not the first time a 777 would appear to suffer from smoke in the cabin. A United example diverted into GLA a few years ago with the same problem, I understand that it wasn’t the first time United had suffered this either…
