Does anyone have any details regarding the above German pilot shot down 7th October 1940 at Mayfield Flats in Sussex? Any photos of his crashed Messerschmitt Bf.109 would be a bonus.
Thanks
Graham

Thanks to both of you for your information. I was enquiring on behalf of my son-in-law. It turns out that his grandfather witnessed the crash and first on the scene. Although there was very little left of the aircraft and pilot, he did pick up several items from the crash site. My son-in-law now has in his possession a pen (badly damaged) in a leather case that belonged to the pilot. Is it possible to get a copy of the final page of his log book prior to his final sortie to go with other information he has already researched? I appreciate that many records that people have obtained involve the expenditure of time and money and are not available to everyone who asks.

I had contact with his family in the 1970s and have here his Log Book, photos etc.
There are no known photos of his crashed Me 109.

Hi Graham
Don’t think you’ll have any luck with a photo. Volume 5 of Nigel Parker’s “Luftwaffe Crash Archive” series has an entry on P.565 which says Lege took off from Bonningues, his ‘109 came down at 16:45 hrs at Cross in Hand, Heathfield after being attacked by a Hurricane. It fell in flames and was completely destroyed after exploding. There’s a photo of him plus one of a 109 that is thought to have been his a/c. W/Nr.3881, of 5/JG27.
