PC Rebuild – odd situation afterwards.

First of all, thanks to those that guided me towards the Malware killers. All seems well now. I’ve had “Stability” for 3 days.

Nowthen, after the rebuild of the C drive last week, I have an odd situation that could end up in disaster.
If I select the remove hardware icon (System try)………..my hard drives are listed. I have a single HDD partitioned into C D E. All three are viewable to remove…….I smell disaster if wifey/childey selects them.
How can I reslove this (On the PC….I don’t want a new wife LoL)?

What is the type of hard drive installed? Make, model, connector? If internal, it should not appear in the remove hardware window in the first place.

I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave some moments ago.

It’s a SATA drive. Non removeable.

A favour required please….related to this subject.
I have posted a question on Microsoft Discussion Windows Update. I cannot see the question (For some reason that maybe related to this subject), but I have an Email notification of an answer. The thread is “Update failure, I think I know why but not how to fix it”. Could a kind soul please post me the answer on here or by PM?

Control Panel>User accounts. Anything other that a computer administrator level account should (though not tested here) prevent meddling with hardware.

No, the basics are right. I’m the admin, the lad has a limited account. The fact is that the HDD should never be visible in the “Remove Hardware” icon.

Hi tenthije.

Kids have a seperate account, but when I tried to put net-nanny on that account, the settings also applied to the main account too.

As for the “Safely Remove Hardware” notification, as far as I know that isn’t adjustable at the account level.

Maybe it is possible for you to set up different accounts on your computer? One for the administrator (you) and another one for the wife and kids. You might even make a seperate one for the kids with more restricted internet access (net-nanny).
