"P"d Off

I am feeling a bit “P”d off at the moment, and the GA thread hasn’t helped.
What can you suggest I do to cheer myself up?.

😀

The ONLY aircraft I would absolutely love,to fly in, and even for a 5 min trip, and have, since seen, many yrs ago is the Herculese C130. I would give an arm and a leg for just a quicky.

I wouldn’t do a Baz on you and wind you up about having Hercules flights!

Now, if it were a Beezer Road Rocket, like I used to own, and like a prat sold it, then thats a different matter.
I was looking recently at a 1948 BSA bantam, they “only” wanted £2.000 for it, and that was in need of a full restoration.
Gawd only knows what the likes of Blue 2 pay out in their restoration projects, Lincoln .7.

that’s exactly why i avoid brit bike restorations ( loveley bikes ) but prices are stupid for a bag of rusty parts

some of the jap stuff is just as classic now and a hell of a lot cheaper

you can get a fully sorted classic jap for what you’d pay for a box of rusty parts for a brit , a no brainer realy

if i was spending that sort of money to do a bike i’d want one of these

something new and difrent

Hi. By the looks of her, she wont take up a lot of time to do, but I suppose it depends on how far and how much you want to spend on her, and what you intend to do with it when restored.Having done a huge amount of restoration work as a hobby over the recent years, I hope you have deep pockets, as it can be expensive.

Morning James, I would hazard a guess that your “Quicky” has a diifferent meaning to mine . No, mine is still in the showroom, awaiting for DVLA to get the plates off the Landy transferred to the Cooper, my wifes, second hand Cooper, :D:D:D, is awaiting to have new plates on hers also, as I treated her to a set of new plates from DVLAs number plate site.
Mine is, JC 03 XPC, think about it, and the plates for the wifes car are PC. 03 XPC naturaly the xpc in her case means zilch, but well, your only here once, and you can’t take it with you.

Wouldn’t we all mate;)

Did you pick up your BMW Mini then Jim?

I must admit that although to me they are no way built in the spirit of the Issigonis/Moulton BMC original (apart from some obvious styling ques), too big and complex for that, but as a modern smallish car they are quite good looking and well finished.

Hi Desk pilot. Your a funny chap!, I have had many P.Ms giving advice. I have a Glider Pilots A&B licence, but the medical squashed that, not going down that route. The ONLY aircraft I would absolutely love,to fly in, and even for a 5 min trip, and have, since seen, many yrs ago is the Herculese C130. I would give an arm and a leg for just a quicky.
Anyway, nice of you to get in touch with the advice.
Hope you were no where near the floods of recent?.

Jim, as this is an aviation based thread, I’m surprised no-one has recommended the obvious. Go flying young man, go flying. Surely you have an airfield near you where you can either bum a ride or go halves with the pilot.

A lot cheaper than taking missus shopping.

As my bumper sticker says, “Wanna get high, learn to fly”

Yes, and one which sank HMS HOOD unfortunately with nearly total loss of life. It realy is amazing, that should a like scenario arise today, that ship could have been sunk with a missile when the pilot himself couldn’t see the target.as it would be miles and miles away.over the horizon.
Lets hope it never comes to that again.

Hi Jim,
For ANY service person I cannot think of anything worse than shooting your own people or being shot by your own side (be they French, German, American or even British) and yes from behind a computer in the comfort of our own houses we can all criticise those that pulled the trigger but PLEASE let us not adopt any holier than thou attitude.

Are we perfect?

Let’s just think for a few seconds.

How far back do we look?
The British firing poisonous gas in the First world War and not take into account wind direction and killing our own troops!!

Dozens of other examples

Second World War
A British Spitfire shot down TWO!!!!!! yes TWO RAF Hurricanes One might be careless but two!!

Then there was the case of FIFTEEN Fairey Swordfish torpedo aircraft attacking I believe HMS Sheffield who they thought was the German pocket battleship Bismark!! Did the blooming Sheffield look ANYTHING like the Bismark?? TYhank God the British warship did not fire at those ‘Stringbags’ or bags of string :diablo: (thank goodness ALL fifteen aircraft missed the target)

Lets move into modern times when we have the technology we all like to think is infallible.

Iraqi War II… A British Challenger II tank engaged and destroyed ANOTHER British Challenger tank killing a number of its crew

Royal Marine in his River Patrol Boat was killed when soldiers from the Royal Engineers fired a missile at it!!

yes, yes a thousand times yes there are far more incidents of US blue on blue involvements but surely the very basic rules of statistics explains that… The Americans have far more soldiers, sailors and airmen so it must stand to reason they will see more action and therefore very sadly more of these horrible incidents!!

When we go to war we ALL…… MUST ACCEPT the consequences and very, very sadly being killed by a friendly force is sadly always going to happen.

Blaming folks on a public forum might perhaps not endow us to them… How about we all accept NO ONE WOULD DELIBERATELY FIRE ON A FRIENDLY UNIT

Yes I have heard the tapes of the A10…. The tapes of I believe two cobra’s the written dialogue of F-16 pilots.. They were elated to have killed the ‘enemy’ they all thought or in the case of the cobra’s ‘believed’ they were attacking the enemy. If they had been told they were definitely British units then does ANYONE here seriously believe any of those crews would have pulled the trigger?? Shame on anyone if they think these folks would have.

They were all fighting to protect their homelands… I for one salute their courage and hope they can eventually come to terms with the tragic mistakes they have sadly made.

As an aside the American forces are developing amazing kit that will hopefully go a long way to reducing this terrible part of warfare.

Lincoln7…
Jim. PLEASE…..
Switch that computer off for SEVERAL days and chill out, relax, do ANYTHING other than log onto forums…. I firmly believe they can effect your health!! You will loose sleep, you will be thinking about posts you disagree with, or posts that have annoyed you… Life is far, far too short to get frustrated over things we have no control over 🙂

Just remember
Sticks and stones
May break our bones
but names will NEVER
Hurt us.

To all our brave service personnel…… I salute you and pray that you all look after yourselves and your colleagues

Yours sincerely
John

Completely agree with you!!!!! But…..one teeeeny little thing. Bismark was not a “pocket battleship”, but a great big full sized huge battleship.

Sorry, I’m no expert and cannot really suggest other sources. This may have been the first and last time they were ever used?

You could try a question in the Naval Aviation forum.

Actually they didn’t miss. Their torpedoes were fitted with a new type of magnetic pistol that malfunctioned and detonated their torpedoes too early. Ironically because of this the Swordfish were able to rearm with torpedoes fitted with conventional contact pistols and it was with these that they later crippled the Bismark!

I have interest to history of installation of magnetic pistol on English torpedoes.
When it has taken place? What torpedo attacks have been made? How magnetic pistols worked?
Trondheim, Catapult, Taranto, Bismark-Sheffield, etc?
I read Campbell, but he has not enough details. Whether there are other sources?

I was actually trying to make light of the incident and did not feel the need to go into detail but yes eleven torpedoes were dropped and yes a significant number did what you very kindly described but some fired straight and true. The Sheffield thankfully evaded those few that were indeed on target. A disaster was averted by the professionalism of the captain and crew of the Sheffield.

These posts however are about that horrible term blue on blue and are we really splitting hairs on what these torpedoes did? The bottom line was that FIFTEEN ROYAL NAVY aircraft attacked a ROYAL NAVY ship that looked nothing like Bismark!!!!

Someone upstairs decided that most of those torpedoes went pop and the others missed… The aircrews were intent on sinking that British warship…

As Kev quite rightly said… When we are told there are bad guys about…. We then SOMETIMES see ‘bad guys’ and fail to acknowledge what our eyes actually see :)
