Peace Icarus 2000 deliveries started

First modernised F-4 delivered in the P.A.

Today at the installations of Greek Aviation Industry (EAV) in Tanagra, the delivery of the first Peace Icarus 2000 Phantom II , took place .

In the ceremony were pressent the Minister of National Defence Mr Giannos Papantonioy, PA Chief of Staff Air Marshal Panagiotis Papanikolaoy, the Chairman and Director of the Defensive Sector of German company EADS, as well as other representatives from the political and military leadership.

It is reminded that the program concerns in the modification of 35 planes of the type that gives them multi role capabilities. Main contractor of program is the German EADS which undertook the program after competition and the EAV undertook the manufacture of collections of modification (group-A Kits) and the final installation and trial of new system.

In the program participates also the Israeli Company Elbit Systems who allocated enough elements, including the mission computer and the relative software as well as several Greek companies that undertook the manufacture or modification of elements of the system.

In their speeches the minister of National Defence and the Chairman and CEO of EAV, Dr Dionysios Xenos and EADS Defense Sector Director Mr A. Rauen underlined the contribution of programs, such as this, in the upgrade of domestic defensive industry, in order that progressively she can participate equivalently in the collective efforts of European Union and in European programs of defensive research and technology.

At the same time, they stressed that this upgrade becomes more imperative in view the ESDP that is developed in the European Union and the effort for collective forms of action amining at the European defensive self-reliance and the confrontation of competition of on the other hand Atlantic.
