Pedestal mounted T-33 sliced in two in bizarre aircraft crash in Oklahoma

In a bizarre accident , a Cessna 340A, N5757C, was substantially damaged when it impacted terrain while on approach to land on runway 13 at Muskogee-Davis Regional Airport (MKO/KMKO), Muskogee, Oklahoma. The pilot and four passengers received minor injuries.

The FAA reported that the aircraft experienced engine issues and crashed short of the runway, and the right wing clipped the permanent-static USAF Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star 53-4971. The flight had departed Mission Field Airport (KLVM), Montana, about 4h30m earlier.

One might have assumed that with its flying days long finished, and minding its own business at the top of a pole, that a peaceful retirement was assured…

Shame about the Cessna 340 getting wrecked too. Light twins are an endangered species nowadays.

A nice type.

At least no one was seriously injured (I believe).

It looks like the break occurred at the removable tail section joint.

If so, it might be repairable, now whether the airport would go to the trouble is a different matter.

The aircraft is still owned by the NMUSAF, so they may have some say in the matter.

Someone over on WIX pointed out there is a complete tail section for sale…conceivably, the insurance company of the Cessna owner would pay for repairs.

Having read the rest of the thread, I am still thinking WTF, just a slightly different WTF? Feel sorry for the poor T33, but at least the people got out in the right number of pieces.
