I am going to be in Honesdale, Pennsylvania this summer for 9 weeks and i am wondering if there any collections in that area?

I will note that down and try to get there on a day off.
Ollie,
If you can, try to arrange to visit Van Sant airport in Erwinna, PA. It’s a little grass field I got my license at. I still stop by there when I can. They have some unique airplanes that you can get a ride in. There’s a tiger moth, stearman, great lakes, piper cub, gliders and some of the usual suspects available for rent. I’ve been up in the tiger moth, great lakes and stearman. Great fun. Right now they’re working on getting a chipmunk properly licensed for flight training and renting.I’ve been reading posts at this website for a few months now. Lots of good stuff. I’ve been toying with the idea of selling my Citabria and buying a chipmunk and found this site when I was searching for information about the “Chippies”. It’s doubtful right now that I’ll get one but who knows.

Ollie,
The Geneseo Airshow is scheduled for July 7-9. The seventh is a fly in day with full shows on Saturday and Sunday. In a previous post I sent you the URL for the sponsoring organization, The 1941 Historical Aircraft Group (I mislabeled the group in the original post). The entrance fee is low, only $10 per day and cost of food and drink is about as low as it gets at any airshow.
The gates open at 6:00 am and don’t close until dark. You could visit the Curtiss and Wings of Eagles Museums on the way. The only problem for you would be the distance; I’m guessing it would be about a 4 hour drive from your location.

I also would like to encourage you to consider the Geneseo Airshow put on by the 1941HAG group in early July if you can get a ride. It is one of the most enjoyable airshows in the US.
Jeff
Whats the date of the airshow? I dont know if i will have that day off but if i do i would love to get to it.

Im sure i tried registering for wix and it would not let me, if someone could post me a link i will try again.
That was the other thing i was hoping for, that a member or to would be somewhere in the area. It is always nice to put names to faces and spend some time with people who share the same interest.

Might I suggest trying over on the WIX board to see if you might be able to meet up with someone in that area. I’m about 2-3 hour drive from the area you will be (Albany NY). Most of us Yanks would be more that happy to help or 9 weeks be enjoyable if we can.

Check out you are old enough to rent a car before you go.
Driving ages are younger over there but rental is different.

Hi Ollie
just come back from three weeks touring the west of the US – think big, get your self a sat nav and program in all your addresses and and relax! – best way to do it m8
the driving is easy – less hassle than over here – everyone takes there time and a 4 hour road trip feels like the equivilant to a 40 minute trip over here!
Enjoy! – my first day back at work today and feeling jetlagged – must plan my next trip!
By: ollieholmes - 6th March 2006 at 22:27
Thank you all. Now i just need to sot everything out and get there.

Brilliant, thank you so much. I cant wait to go. I didnt realise there was so much so close.
First on my list of visits has to be Old Rhinebeck. I like the middle of nowhere, and i am happy to negotiate 2 lane roads.

Ollie,
For the sake of completeness, I’m giving a set of sites within about 4 hours of your location. You won’t be able see much if you can’t go a couple of hours. Perhaps Rhinebeck is closer, but you’ll have to negotiate some two lane roads. You are going to be in the middle of nowhere!

Ollie
google Warbird Alley site
They have a section which gives the links you want and a lot more
Just to give you an idea of drive time Buffalo to New York is about
8 hours
You should think of the Smithstonian as well Currtis in Hamonsport Ny
Rienbeck is a must for WW1 Garden City airport in Ny City
By: ollieholmes - 6th March 2006 at 01:29
Jeff,
Would it be possible for you to provide some links to these museams. I will be working for 9 weeks at Summit Camp on the camp America scheme. I arrive there on the 22nd June and finish on the 20th August when i will then have 9 weeks to travel wherever i wish.
You say Old Rhinebeck is near there, i will have to get myself there for definate.
Thank you all for your help, but i think getting to New York is out of the question as i will be about 125 miles from there and thats to much a day.
