Anyone have any photos of the aircraft involved in the making of these two TV series (ie, for Piece of Cake, ones that didn’t appear in the “making of” book)??

Incredible to think that of the 7 Warbirds in that pic only 2 are still in the UK and only one of the two has flown in recent years. Nice pics Trumper, bring back old memories.

I loved G-FIRE in the scarlet scheme. I’d love to see her returned to that scheme. I have that article too. After Spencer sold it on, my cousin was commissioned to make 3 silver models of her, Spencer got one, Ken Whithead another and i forget who got the 3rd. I went with him to photogragh her and was allowed to sit in her, the only Spifire i have ever sat in. When he was commisioned to make Rolls Royces Mk14 they cleared the hanger out and had a professional video made of it.

Does NH904 still have her strobes fitted? I remember seeing them – all too briefly – in the God-awful film Aces: Iron Eagle 3, where she was chasing after one of those funny European jet things with guns blazing – and rockets strapped to her wings! 😮
I always thought (after seeing a pic of her still in her G-FIRE days) that she only had them fitted in the cannons, but in the film there appeared to be strobes in the outer gun positions, too!

David Burke,
I am sure that Mike Searle, who wrote that article on G-FIRE, would be delighted with your comment/rating – I will pass it on. He is based in Arizona now.
Here is my little contribution to G-FIRE – a full ‘Airways’ panel that still looks basically Spitfire.
“Can you just fit this in?”
“I think we should have one of these”.
By the time we were finished we had a serious depletion of top fuel tank volume!

The ‘Heinkel’ scene was filmed in Texas, with the CAF’s Spitfire IX (flown by Howard Pardue) and Casa. Both aircraft have since been destroyed, along with PL983 and G-BOML. With the loss of Mark Hanna, Nick Grace and Hoof Proudfoot, as well as, I believe, the camera ship helicopter pilot, it is sad to note the number of pilots and aircraft involved in this series which have since been lost to us.
Think the flight scenes in piece of cake are a great Tribute to Mark Nick and Hoof and its just one other way that these people have touched our lives, they fly on forever now.I remember watch the last show in series in bed after being a diffficult teenager and my late dad being p*ssed off at me,even then i was a huge aircraft fan.

Hmmmm I’d have to disagree there David, that BofB scheme on a low backed Griffon Spit just looks hideous if you ask me 🙁

Dez – there were four Spits painted up in the RF- markings: AR501 (RF-Y), BM597 (RF-C), EP120 (RF-M) and MV154 (RF-T).
Here’s a pic of BM597. Yes, the squadron codes are probably familiar to everyone as the codes of 303 (Polish) Squadron – so much for historical accuracy, as they were meant to be Eagle Squadron aircraft!
