Is that seating area still over by the visitor centre? If so BAA will claim that they already have a viewing area.

I’d love to see you succeed, good luck but don’t hold your breath.

I’ll sign the petition, making 91, but still, that’s not going to make much difference.
A lack of a viewing area is a shame, though. I’m on holiday here in Auckland, NZ for another week, and Auckland Airport has an excellent viewing area, obviously endorsed, aided and abetted by the authorities.

🙁

You’re welcome. Sadly, though, you will need many more than that to make someone listen. 🙁

I will sign this and pass it around.. Sadly, like the above comments, it really wont have any impact whatsoever unfortunately.. BAA only interest is in retail…getting shopping into airports, they will pull the same card that they have been pulling at GLA over the years as we have petitioned for one… “airport security” very lame excuse indeed, but, that is the BAA’s way. Days like the A380 at MAN filling the AVP etc… are rare and in the bigger scheme of things the financial gain equates to about 1 twentieth of the airports retail takings on the same day.
HOWEVER
you don’t ask, you don’t get.. so get signing folks.

Well Manchester has one. It has a shop, restaurant, Concorde, three spotter’s mounds, cafe, grass picnic areas and table, a regular bus service to it, four other aircraft on display (Vulcan Trident, BAE-146 and the nose of a Monarch DC-10).

It has a third of the traffic of Heathrow and it’s heaving in the summer despite it costing £3 an hour to park.

When the A380 arrived first visit there were tens of thousands of people around the airport – you couldn’t move.

I think BAA are very short sighted. The UK is full of plane mad people – surely they must realise this ?

…signed it and posted on another aviation forum.

It’s a commendable idea. However, to have any chance of success with an idea like this you have to sell it to BAA, you have to prove to them that such an area would be an asset to the airport, that it is cost effective and that it would be easy to operate with no impact on security operations at the airport. Effectively, you need to find an appropriate location, plan and design it, cost it and outline all the benefits the airport would gain by having an officially designated viewing area. The revenue stream to the airport would also be important. Is there scope for a franchised coffee outlet such as Costa, could an enthusiasts shop be appropriate like the one at the AVP in Manchester? There’s an awful lot to consider.

Anyway, I thought Heathrow’s official viewing area was in Myrtle Grove.

Will sign when I’m home (company firewall is blocking the petition site).

However, it’s not going to make the slightest difference. BAA will never invest in a viewing area. They’re too close minded and sort sighted.

Heck, they can’t even deal with a flurry of snow barely 1cm thick!
