Petrol to be £2.00 per

Just seen on the news, that petrol is due to hit the £2.00 p.l. soon, the highest it’s been.
What would you do to get this Country back on line, have we gone far too much P.C. and try and get the Taxes on petrol reduced, and many other items that are taxed to the hilt.

I once said at work, that I will soon be better off having my Income Tax, and letting the Tax Office keep my wages.
Just got my latest code from them, even though there will be no extra money coming in, I will be paying more tax.

The point is, of course, that even the 600 Cameron is planning to reduce the number to is far too high. 400 is where we should be…………….but we really have strayed from your original question, so I think I have become bored with this thread!:diablo:

I see no reason why we need any more than 250-300. The USA only has 600-650 and look at size of their country.

As I said it’s wandered off in so many directions that there is no real debate. You could say 7 I could say 10. So what? No one knows………so no tail just bored.

Of course. Thanks for the correction.

I was experiencing an early-morning episode of uncharacteristic charitability. 🙂

I am sure there is enough room in Westminster itself to house 650 MPs on fold up camp beds. The only time I ever see the chamber full, is on a Wednesday, and they have bars and restaurants there, why bother going home at all.:diablo:

Why do they not have a secure hotel for MPs next to parliament?

Wormwood Scrubs isn’t all that far from Parliament.

Give ’em an Oyster card apiece, and the job’s done. 🙂

Why do they not have a secure hotel for MPs next to parliament? They travel into the capital should their work require it. They can stay in safety overnight, they can have a nice minibus that they can all share – perhaps a VW Caravelle.

They can have one home like everyone else, paid by themselves. They can be reimbursed for actual costs traveling into the city.

..and then I woke up. 😮

And while we’re at it stop them using taxpayers money to pay for a home in London which, inspite of being within walking distance of the office, they are still driven to work by a chaufeur. If we had a job in the city and wanted city accommodation close to work and keep our residence in the country we would have to pay for the city accommodation out of our own pocket so why shouldn’t they?

Hi Mike, I will go along with what you state, I have just had my Landy MOTd for the next year. The mileage I had covered since it’s last one was less than 3,000 so for me, it would pay off.ie paying via the miles you travel.
My son in law builds F1 racing cars, glass fiber, kevlar, and carbon, he has to travel some 60 miles there and the same home, but it still costs him a bomb in diesel, and to cap it all, his Company have just stopped all overtime. He is one of these chaps who is over qualified to get another identical job, also there are no Companies in our area who do the same sort of work.

If all the polititions used their own cars, instead of being provided with one, and somewon to drive them around, but have to pay for petrol and diesel out of their own pockets and not be able to be reimbursed their exes for same, I bet things would change P.D.Q. as regards the price we pay.

I’ll tell you why diesel is cheaper in Europe, because our government is too greedy with their fuel taxation. I think if you work it out our fuel is the most expensive in Europe with the exception of, I think, Italy. I don’t know about other countries but certainly Germany pays the same for their petrol as we do and less for their diesel yet 2/3 of their road tax is covered onff the cost of the fuel. That is one of the reasons I disagree when our goverment’s repeatedly refuse to cover road tax from the fuel price without raising the cost of the fuel. If the whole of road tax was recovered via the fuel price then no one could avoid paying road tax. It would also be fairer in that those who cover the most miles pay the most road tax.

I didn’t think we had road tax in this country. We have Vehicle Excise Duty which is a tax on vehicles which goes into the overall tax pot. It is a common misconception that VED pays for roads.

Mike. Soewhere on here, there are those that state the prices are not set by our Government, if this is true, how come diesel is cheaper in Europe, surly our Govenment wouldn’t rip off the very people who elected them to power ?.

Or would they?.

Hi Mike, I see your not the only one who fell for it(Can’t remember which one it was ) but the Government was banging on about how much cheaper to run a diesel was rather than a petrol version.
Like an idiot, as it was a great deal cheaper at the time, purchased my first diesel.
Now where I live I pay 5p per Ltr more than my wife does for her petrol.
I recon I am going to vote for the Raving Loony Party next election.

Yes diesel is more expensive than petrol in this country (the only country in Europe where this is the case incidentally). OK so I pay 4p a litre more for my fuel but go two thirds the distance on petrol compared to diesel. It does actually still work out cheaper to run a diesel in the long run. I have just found out that I have done the same distance on less than half a tank of diesel that would have taken me 3/4 of a tank of petrol and the diesel has a smaller tank (only by 2 litres but still smaller.)

G.A. Nail/head exactly as you have stated. Also I am gobsmacked when petrol/diesel goes up in the budget, it goes up at 18.00 hrs.the same day!!
How come when it goes down, it takes so long ?.
