pets on board

Someone posted a few days ago a topic about extra-fat people.
There is an other scandal (from my perspective): that’s pets on board.

When my beloved moved from California to Paris , one of the issues was to move the freaks (actually 2 kitties). After some investigation , UA told us that it was legal and possible to have them with us in the cabine with an extra fee. This fee was almost the price of 1 ticket in coach.
The point is you pay the cost of one ticket , you don’t get an extra seat for the pets , and they have to travel in bags under uour feet.

It’s pretty traumatic for the pets and the owners who have to fly 11 hours in a such situation.

This situation seems unfait to me.

RE: pets on board

Yes indeed.

Coming back to the pet topic, I was thinking in some sort of solution.
Like which plane could allow the owners to see their pets during flights and I’ve come to two conclusions (I would love to hear opinions on this):

1) The 747 Combi with a special pet pallet just behind the cabin, although I suppose owners should be “supervised” to avoid them touching the rest of the cargo.

2) The A330 or A340 with an adapted “LCR” container (is LCR the correct name of the crew room?) for pets.

Obviously this could only be on transatlantic flights and would not be very economically interesting for the airlines. I’m just thinking of the animals.

By the way, do you know www.companionair.com ?

You can strap a dog in Bhoy. There are harnesses available freely on the market! They are mainly used for cars but work the same for Airline seatbelts!

RE: pets on board

This is really a problem for pet lovers.

My wife and I are not moving to Mexico (we live in Spain) because I work in the airline industry and there is no way I am gonna put my three dogs in a hold.

I’ve seen too many “accidents”, thank you.

The last ressource is wearing sunglasses and having a doctor friend which makes a certificate you’re blind and then the dog will go with you.
Shame to have to think this way.

RE: pets on board

In August 1994 I flew from Kursk to Moscow in an Aeroflot An-24. On board we had a Russian family with a huge, beautiful Great Dane. No problems. The dog was nervous but well-behaved which probably showed he understood he was flying Aeroflot ๐Ÿ™‚ I volunteer to let somebody’s pooch or kittie sit next to me any time – and the more often the better! The pets are better behaved than almost all of the little kids, and about half of the alleged adults. Woof! Woof!

Andy, no airline’ll let you take a dog on a seat. You couldn’t strap it in for a start.

RE: pets on board

Erm how does a box for kitten fit under an airliner seat, yeah sure mabye under the seat but they just forgot to say under the floor as well which is still under ur seat!

I would love my dog to come with me. Its only a Westie. Which airlines would let me bring it on a seat. (its trained to go by the door so ill sit at the back door since most people get on at the front! :p

RE: pets on board

I agreed with fat people situation but for this, I disagree. A fat person requires two seats and so should be made to pay for them.

I suppose if a pet is to be carried in the cabin and the cost is similar to that of a passenger fare, they should be entitled to have a seat.

One thing, airlines may be conscious of pet hair over the seats which may put passengers off – but if you pay such a ridiculous sum to carry your furry friends with you, you should be enititled to better storage space other than under your seats. The space under the seat is yours, it is included in the cost of your ticket because if your hand luggage will not fit in the overhead lockers, you are told to put it underneath your seat – it’s crazy!
