Has anyone on here ever had a good idea for an aircraft, only to have it snubbed or discarded by the PFA??

I submitted my ideas recently for a Taylor Monoplane converted into a Spitfire replica, and they weren’t very keen on that – said it might be better to build a WAR Sea Fury or Thunderbolt into one :eek:!!

Quite strange, actually, as Terry Taylor seems to think it’ll work. After all, this guy in Canada built a MkXIV from a Taylor Titch….

1. Rotate the top of your keyboard towards you until it is face-down.
2. Beat the bottom of the keyboard violently for as long as you like.
3. Return keyboard to normal operational attitude.
4. Vacuum up mess.

This usually works to clear jammed keys. Failing that, you should at least have had some fun for a few seconds.

Half-right. Usually we do something “creative” but quite often we end up discussing something to do with aircraft! 😉

She quite likes WW1 stuff, but I haven’t yet convinced her to build an SE5a! 😉

Second hand engines are all there is, they stopped manufacturing a lot of them years ago!. GET THAT PFA MEMBERSHIP AND LOOK IN THE MAGAZINE there will be engines there.

Rule no 1: A cheap deal will always cost you more money than an expensive option.

You get what you pay for. If you can’t afford to pay you’d better learn how to do the work.

Negative vibes?

They are what you imagine if you only read half the thread!

Getting back to the crux, there are ways of keeping costs down but do not scrimp. I even saved money with Vintec who had a reputation for being expensive. They are not, as you pay for what you get, but they were willing to help me budget.

You can get a lot of help from people that have already been there. Get down to your local PFA strut sooner rather than later.

I retired from the Feds in 1998 having had 14 years gamekeeping – I am now back to poaching so fill your boots. Though you would be a bl**dy prat to forge a medical since if you did have a mishap the insurance company would certainly not pay out and the Feds would certainly prosecute as has been the case in the not too distant past to a really great GA enthusiast who must have had a brief mental aberration.:cool:

Looks like Daz and I will be manufacturing all of the components in triplicate – all we need is a driving licence for Daz to get him back and forth to my barn when needed .

They are not my comments, as I said lifted from pprune, comments of Genghis the Engineer. It was offered as advice, not as a negative “don’t build”. Maybe these are not easy builds and why there is not many flying.

I for one would like to see more, and with further information may consider a build. But if all my time is taken building no time left for flying, which of course is what I would rather be doing.

Oh!!, those negative vibes – 3500 hours; that is less than 10 hours per day per year. Spread over a 4 year period it is down to less than 2 1/2 hours a day; many people spend more time than that watching television and down at the pub.

I’m surprised you say the Fury and the Spitfire take about the same time to build; I would have thought that the Fury being a biplane, would have taken longer; ask anyone who has built model aircraft whether they can build a pair of biplane wings in the same time as the can build a single monoplane wing, not withstand having to produce two sets of fittings and struts etc.. This equates to either the Spitfire taking less than 3500 hours to build or the Fury taking more than 3500 to build. :confused:

I think it is a mistake to keep a tally on the hours worked or the amount spent on a project, rather keep an account of the enjoyment and satisfaction one gets from doing it. So, it takes four years to build; at the end of that time you have something that is unique and however many similar a/c have been built yours will be unlike any other – no two home-built aircraft of the same design are identical. 😎

I know people who have been in particular trades for all their working lives and I would not let them anywhere near my projects without retraining because their abilities in aircraft building are not up to scratch – metal, wood, composite, take your pick.

Negative vibes have no place in the home-building scene.
