Phantastic Phantom???

First off, I’m not expressing any opinion here, but I was talking to an elderly chap some while back who was a designer for a couple of the now defunct UK aircraft companies back in the 50’s and 60’s. He was very critical of the Phantoms aerodynamics, saying that it was basically a clumsy and badly designed aircraft that was knocked and tweaked into shape. He cited the drastic anhedral tail and the strange wingtips among many other details that were required to make it acceptable. Whether this be true or not I am not qualified to judge but this man was involved in projects like the DH Sea Venom and Sea Vixen and the Hunter so I guess he must know something about aerodynamics.
