Have got to echo what markp451 has said the MAM they have done great work over the last thirty old years, obtaining the Voodoo and F-4×2 from the USAF was a great new, as was there F-104 from Denmark. If their disasembled F-4 is complete I would like it to go on display at another location, would MAM consider a swop or long term loan to another museum, may be Newark would be a good place. Congulations to all MAM and lets hope they can fund a hangar extension in the near future

Both Phantom were used as BDR before MAM got there hands on them. The first Phantom is in a good condition with the paint has a lot of BDR patches. As for the second one she was used to a degree as a spares ship for the first. BDR patches can be seen on the second better. But it has been said at MAM she may go on a pole outside the Museum when/if the cash become avaible.
MAM do a very go job looking after there A/C with limited cash and staff, I think itstaken 2/3 years to get the money together so they can do the Vulcan for E.G.

SALT covered strategic arms. Aircraft wise this was strategic bombers. You are possibly thinking of the CFE Treaty (Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty). The Buccaneer was covered by CFE, but that doesn’t stop examples being considered to be made airworthy in private hands. In similar fashion if the Vulcan was returned to flying status it wouldn’t violate any of the treaties and warrant an inspection. NASA B-52s (B and H models)warrant an inspection under START to see that they are not nuclear capable.

Heres a little more info regarding the MiG killer, the date of the kill was 14 May 1967 and it was a MiG-17, the crew was Bakke and Lambert.

Andrew.
Sadly no. I don’t think that’s allowed in the UK under the SALT treaty. Doubt that the CAA would ever allow such a complex aircraft to fly privately in the UK anyway. Still, we can always hope………….

Nice piccies Kev. The first pic: That Phantom looks in a top notch form… Still airworthy do you know?

I’d be interested in learning about that MiG kill as well. I’ll probably go over to ACIG and ask about it. That’s generally a great source for questions of that nature.
Dazza beat me to it, but since that first airplane is an F-4C the serial would have to be 63-7699, and not 67- because F-4C’s were built until 1965 or 1966, and then I believe production switched completely over to the F-4D. (at least for the USAF)
P.S. The AirLife Aviation Notebook Series book I have on the F-4 says that -7699 was an F-4C in any case. I’m sure my Spirit in the Skies book would say the same.

Dazza.
Thanks for the info. If you know the circumstances of the Mig kill would you mind posting it please?

Heres a little info on the F-4s. The dismantled F-4C is 63-7414 and last flew with the 136 FIS, New York ANG, the restored F-4C is 63-7699, I don’t know this particular airframes last unit but it served with the 356 TFS in Vietnam which is where it gained its MiG kill, hope this helps.

PII.
I think the serial for the first is either 63 or 67-699. Perhaps you can tell us more? I think I was told once that it was an original Mig killer. The other a/c serial ends I think in 414. It appears to be a refugee from a battle damage repair unit as it is covered in patches. It’s been in a dismantled state for at least a couple of years.

Thanks for thinkin’ of me Kev! You know I always like to see new Phantom pictures.
The F-4C in that first photo is gorgeous! Complete with a MiG kill!
Do you know the story behind the other two photos? They look like an F-4C from some FIS of the USAF, but I can’t tell the squadron? Is it going to be restored? Maybe I could buy it if I ever got enough money. 🙂
