Went out to the local airshow this afternoon. I sat off the end of the runway with a handful of other people who didn’t feel like actually entering the airshow itself. Today’s lesson? Phear the Phantom! There is nothing like the sound of twin J-79s, especially when you haven’t heard them for over 15 years! Oh yeah, the Thunderbirds were there too. Amusingly enough, I left to go pick up some steak from the Commissary during the Thunderbirds show. I’d seen them takeoff and make a few passes, but they weren’t passing over where we were watching from, so I figured to hell with it, time for dinner. Well, as I’m heading into the building, a really loud noise appears, followed by one of the F-16s flying at treetop height right over the building…doing a very slow speed, high-alpha pass! And my damn camera was in the car! Gah! Oh well. Next year, I guess, I met my goal anyway of being right under the Phantom when it took off and landed…I was right off the end of the runway on purpose!
Here’s some shots of the show. I did manage to get about 100 shots of the Phantom 😀
