Photo at Old Warden of Hurricane bailout

🙂
Hi, We were discussing this photo which hangs on the wall in one of the hangars.
It seems to show a pilot bailing out of a Hurricane.
Does anyone have any information on the circumstances involved.
There looks to be flak bursts in the vicinity, were they being fired at the Hurricane or possibly the plane that the photo was taken from?.
Any information appreciated Thanks in advance 🙂
And we think we’ve had a bad day if we sit in a traffic jam.

This was a set-up photograph which was later doctored and airbrushed. Not the real deal.

I think there were several images – different stages of the B/O procedure.

And yes, there is a punch-out escape panel on that side of the Hurricane cockpit for just this purpose – although I admit that on this image it looks as if it might be a full length door!

Don’t remember Hurricanes having a huge ‘walk out’ door that side…;)

How convenient for the poor chap. He should have made his day easier by walking over and straightening out that aileron while he was at it.

Photo of aircraft taken on the ground.
