Photo help needed

Hi

Shown below is 1 of about 20 photos I tuck last week of Airliners flying over my house before landing at East Midlands however they have all come out blurred.

Does anyone have any ideas how to take photos in these conditions without this happening please ?

hmm, to make my pictures smaller in size, it suffices to just put it at 99% size and and then save it on that size. It just makes my pictures 1/2 as large as they originally are…

Helps if you dust your van first, though! – Nermal

No need to dust it I’ll just say it has a “used look”

I’d say, download a free soft called irfanview (use google).

Other software like ACDSee, Paintshop Pro, Corel photopaint, or Photoshop might do the trick too. But they cost $$$ or £££

www.irfanview.com once you download it, I’ll take you through it Steve. Dead easy. :p

Don’t forget that the flash might not give full unrestricted coverage at that close though!

Which is why I try and use decent available light and forget the flash when using a happy snapper. Most of my model macro shots are taken with my basic Canon A300 on my window ledge in the sun (when it’s out).

Needless to say the shots on my commercial forum model thread, are a good document the dismal Scottish summer of 2004. 😮

Thanks for the help.

The Camera is a Fuji S5000 and yes it does have a Macro foucs mode that I will try out later tonight.

Try it in daylight too, not in the twilight of a dismal afternoon. Decent daylight with the flash turned off gives best results.

Switch the macro mode on and get yourself about 4-5 inches away from the subject making sure not to cast a shadow on it or you’re too close.

Your lens’s focusing distance is not short enough for close up work.
Short of buying a macro focus capable lens, the other option is to buy a close up lens, which just slips into a filter holder (Cokin used to do these-dont know if you can stilll get them) Theyre not expensive. Wont be able to do this with a compact, but should be o.k. with an SLR.

It looks like it was taken in the evening on an overcast day – the fact that the sky is not burnt out tells me that; the fact that we can see the basic shape of the airliner says it is not out of focus, just that the subject has moved and this is coupled with the fact that trail from the lights on the wing tips is not straight but off to one side implies operator movement too. Therefore it was dark, the camera used a slow shutter speed, and the photographer was not standing still. – Nermal

I think there should be part of the forum for Camera advice etc,It would help us who are not so great and would be a good thing all round i think.
