Photo of Dakota KG444 ?

Does anyone have a photo or Dakota KG444 – flown by Jimmy Edwards and crashed at Arnhem?

Internet search shows a fuzzy sim skin and a written reference to

the Pie Eyed Piper of Barns (also written as Barnes).

I was not sure whether this was a Hamelyn type piper enticing a group of barns as it was a glider tow aircraft?

Any help appreciated.

No photo of the plane, but information on the crash, and photo of the fieldgraves of two crewmembers in our book:

“The Royal Airforce at Arnhem”, page 172

KG 444

Re the “Pie Eyed Piper of Barnes” can I suggest you obtain a copy of the book “Six of the Best” – Jimmy Edwards autobiography in which he covers that fateful day in some detail, as well as his flying career in the service. Its both interesting and entertaining – highly recommended!!

In respect of the 271 Reunion it was usually done in association with its neighbouring 48 Sqn and Alan Hartley was the link.

271 Squadron – see Down Ampney Association: David Lord VC/271 Sqn site: http://freespace.virgin.net/f.cassidy/arnhemvc3.htm

271 Squadron has held reunions up till at least 2009. As far as I know was Alan Hartley one of the organisers. Maybe you can find contact details of him. I’m sure that he has a lot of information about 271 squadron (aircraft).

Thanks Gliderspit.

I was hoping someone would know what the Nose Art looked like.

The sim skin image does not have enough detail

http://www.maam.org/flightsim/news/c47_pr3.htm

But there must have been a description or image for him to have worked from.

I have 5 separate books on C47/Daks and none have this in it.

Just to confirm Jimmy Edwards was the moustache wearing comedian

To confirm he was born in Barnes London – so it is definitely Barnes…

Well the only picture I could find is in the book “Green On” by Arie Jan van Hees, page 225. It shows the wreckage. Text under the picture is “The pie-eyed Piper of Barnes”. It crashed west of the village of Oploo.
