Can anyone recommend a good model of photo printer in the £200 region ? Preferably one that can print direct from Canon cameras or flashcards.;)

For the moment I’m using an online photo service for my digital prints though I am monitoring wether this is more cost effective than buying a photo printer. I mean the printer would probably pay for itself in the long term but the cartridges still cost an arm and a leg and I can only imagine that photo quality prints are gonna use up an awful lot of ink so its not quite the ‘no brainer’ I thought it was going to be. If you want to know prices try Jessops. I’ve found they are the cheapest at the moment. For instance 1×15″x10″ (A4) print is £1.99. The most expensive I think was Fujifilm who wanted £7 for a single print!

Hi Ren
I’ll be in the market for something very similar in a month or two, so would be pleased to know how you get on.
What I will say though is that at the end of last year I had a look at most of the models (from all the major brands) at a computer expo in London. The one I thought gave the best results per £ actually works out at around £200:

DABS.com are knocking them out for £206.00 and, going by the reviews on this page, everybody who’s bought one seems pleased (gets 5* across the board):

If you don’t need the built-in copier and scanner facilities the Epson Stylus R350 also produced stunning results.
Cheers

I’ve been looking recently too for a better printer than my Epson 670 which is now about three years old. I read in my computer mag about the superb quality of the Canon i560, and went to look on the Canon website for more info about it. If you check out the site at www.canon.co.uk you can send a JPG to them and they’ll print out a 6″x4″ test print for you on their premium paper on your chosen test printer. It’s all automated, and your sample print, together with a publicity leaflet on themodel you chose, will arrive by post within about two working days.
The sample I got back was astonishing in its quality – practically indistinguishable from a conventional 35mm 6″x4″ from any decent processor. Cost of the printer in the High Street – around £150-£160 incl VAT.

I paid a little over $100 USD for mine, it’s an HP scanner/copier/inkjet printer and turns out photo-quality images. Even accepts the glossy, thicker photo paper and all that. I’ll look up the model number when I get home.

Blimey Ren from what I saw you could get an almost pro quality jobbie for 200 quid. I saw an HP one for £90 in the high street store that shall not be named, the next HP jobbie up from that was about £150. It had an LCD an everything.
