Photographic Rights When Book Publishing

Hello,

I’m a first time writer and have completed two book manuscripts on aviation
subjects. While the writing was okay and most photos okay I am very nervous
about certain photos and just what to do about making sure they are okay
to use?

I have a series of photos taken by an individual on a movie set in 1965
while filming for The Flight of the Phoenix was underway. He took them
himself and owns them but can they still be used in any way even though
he was on a studio run set’?

Two examples are attched.
Any expert advice / guidence here?

Hi Simon,

The person who took the photos owns the copy rights and editing rights (unless you have an agreement with them to use in a publication, which may include profit share or simply just credit). To save time explaining the law just follow the link…
