Photography and Video in Airport terminal building?

I heard a rumour that Glasgow airport no longer allow you to either video or take photos in the terminal building without permission.

Can anyone please verify if this is correct or not?

Thanks.

Thanks, Kevin, but I don’t think I’ll bother again at Glasgow, not that I expect to be there again soon!
However Prestwick is a different matter, it’s my second gateway into the UK!

Well if you ever do get a chance to do Glasgow , let me know And I will show you around,
That gose for anyone from the forum

Oh dear, now they know that it’s possible to take pictures from the top of the car park, I doubt if I’ll be able to do it again!
Still, it could be years before I get another opportunity, as I very very seldom pass through that airport.
Got some nice pictures at Prestwick the other day thanks to Ren Frew, though! Let’s keep quiet about the mound, we don’t want to lose that as well, do we!

Hi PL
In general we have grate co-operation between the authorities and the spotters at Glasgow , Last Year The Police and BAA security arranged for my self, Fredd Seggie and David Unsworth to tour the airfield and point out the Place that were advantageous to our Hobby and the locations that may cause the Authorities Problems,
The out come of this tour has meant that areas that we believed to be unaccessible have been open up for us , In The short term , I’m hopeful of even better news from Glasgow with even better news in the long term( as soon as I know I will post an update)

The Multi car-park in front of the terminal was thought at the time not have views of the runway, so was not included in the tour.
As for using it for Photography, May be worth while to give the police a quick call and let them know about you intentions ( They can be quite reasonable )

Officially you need to ask for permission ,but if you are taken pics of aircraft there shouldnt be any problem , as long as you don’t take pictures of the inside of the terminal and employees ( it is Privat property and is a work Place)
Im Trying to get in contact with the security officer at NCP ,hopfully should be able to get a hold of him on Wednesday
So will get back to all some time tomorrow
Kevin

Cheers Mate

Thanks Kevin

Wouldn’t want to go into the carpark and then find that I get in trouble for being there or my camera equipment gets confiscated.

Thanks again Papa Lima i’m sure he will forgot to ask 1 thing about the carpark though What is the likelyhood of being moved on or being in trouble by the authorities if you go up there.

I’m guessing it would be illegal to be in the car park especially if you don’t have a car.

I should be meeting the Police at Glasgow today, and I will make enquiries, but as far as I know The only place Photography is banned is in the security check in areas ,I will aslo enquire about viewing aircraft from the Multi storey carpark

Thanks, Ren, I would appreciate that very much, 6 hours is a long time to spend aimlessly wandering and probably missing the best viewing/photo spots!
I’ll PM you my mobile phone number.

I took this one from the top of the multi-storey car park at Glasgow airport – the only place I could find while in transit there this summer from which I could see the aircraft! I also wandered around with my camera in the terminal for an hour or so without being accosted.
I will be at Prestwick on Friday and hope to take as many as possible between arriving from Gothenburg at 13:30 and departing to Dublin at 20:30.
Any tips for good spotting places there?

The best places are most certainly outwith the building. PL, I’m off work for definite this time and I shall endeavour to meet you at PIK for a quick hello. 😀

I haven’t had any problems in City, but only been in it once with the camera, however I have had friends having problems.

BFS, no problem. Been talked to once or twice being told not to take any inside the terminal, but in the viewing gallery is fine. I guess if the lens is pointing out the window, rather than the other way, no one minds.

Belfast City was another one that was quite notorious for photography, but recently I’ve not had any problems shooting from the cafe. Indeed a few months ago the ground staff let us stand at the gate for a few minutes after disembarking to watch the bmi A321 land from LHR!

There were no officials up there to bother me, and anyway I would have said I was waiting for my mate to arrive and pick me up!
There are probably cameras watching me, but as I said I was there for about a half hour and didn’t see anyone at all! Of course I made sure I didn’t go near any cars, and also at 61 years of age I was probably considered a harmless crank!
I didn’t think the UK was so paranoid that standing in a car park would be considered illegal! However it’s 30 years since I moved to Sweden so perhaps things have changed a bit!

Thanks, Airband1, taken with my Minolta Dimage A1 with just 7x zoom, needed a bit of enlargement in Photoshop!
Out of the terminal on the first floor, cross the footbridge and take the lift to the top of the car park building. Definitely no seating there! I guess in the winter it would be cold and windy; even in the summer half an hour was enough for me! There are only a couple of strategic places up there where the runway is visible – I found them at the eastern end.
However I am sure that Ren knows much better spotting spots!!

How do you get to the Multi Storey carpark from the terminal building and probably a stupid question but is there seating up there or would you need to stand?

BTW nice shot there Papa Lima
