Photography at Paris-CDG

Good chance I will have the oppurtunity to spend a whole day at CDG (in 8 weeks time), I know that a pass is required at CDG, can anyone point me in the right direction of what to put in my request to the authorities, a French version would be brilliant and can anyone give me their experiences of using this service.

Wow, good news 🙂

For the next people that want to ask for such a pass, please consider using the version below for your letter.
Indeed the version quoted above, while comprehensible by a French, contains grammatical / orthograph errors and uses the 2nd person of singular (which is very familiar in french, not to be used in such a letter;))

Bonjour Monsieur Huby,

I applied for mine a couple of years ago and got the pass within about 4 weeks but I have not used it yet ! I took some shots from the terminal last year on way to Miami and got no bother at all from the police.

I hadnt been to Orly myself in decades either until a few months ago, no idea if the old terrace is still active, but, i can direct you to a spot right beside the main..good for shooting, and no probs with the gendarmes there.
Let me know how you get on with Xavier Huby…i keep meaning to try again

Robert …give Xavier a try, but i sent him an email about a year ago, and he replied that no more prefecture’s were being granted!.. hopefully this may have changed since then…if you need locations of safe “off airport” shooting points just give me a shout.

Have not tried it myself, but a mate of mine requested his pass roughly 2 years ago from below mail adress. Include a copy of your passport’s photo page.

xavier.huby@seine-saint-denis.pref.gouv.fr

Typing your mail in French will help. Try Google Translate if you have difficulties with French.

Waiting times vary a lot. Can be days, can be weeks.

edited to add an example letter which I tweaked from a German site:

Bonjour Monsieur Huby,

Loosely translated you get:

Hello mr Huby,

I am INSERT NAME and I live in INSERT CITY, England. I am a «Planespotter» and will visit Paris in a few weeks. I would like to take aircraft photos at CDG.

I heard that a permit is required to do so. Could you please provide me with such a permit?

INSERT YOUR ADDRESS

You will find a copy of my identity card in the attachment.
