Hi All, For my birthday, today, my son took me to Duxford (how nice is that),
We arrived armed with my new camera ! (no Knowledge of this at all !). We wandered around all day snapping everything that didn’t move and some that did ! I will try to send samples of the 150 plus pics, should any of you want to see others please ask ? but be aware i may not know the ident of most of my shots ………. very amature at photography and aircraft ? ….. but up for anything ! I include Sally B after reading here some question as to which engine is u/s and the Storch as i think someone asked about its existance. Keith.

[QUOTE=HP81;1201906]If you can’t trust a museum to look after artifacts who can you trust?
With you all the way on that one ! what a waste of history, our history ! If it were a spitfire ! i think a lot more would be said ! (expect flack for that comment) Keith.

It was thought to have been moved across the road for storage, but disappeared!
I have a feeling that it was disposed of during the scrapping of the Comet Convair or Varsity:confused:
Perhaps someone could save those wings, because if I ever win enough on the lottery..:D
Incidentally the nose gear is still fitted, complete with wheels & tyres.

Thank you for that, wish you hadn’t realy, I can hardly see for tears now ! haha, how can you “lose” something like that ? if only we could “cut and paste” aircraft parts ? Keith.

Hermes Fin
I heard a story ages ago that the Hermes came with a tail fin, but it was subsequently lost, not sure if rumour or fact?
The fin certainly arrived and was restored, or at least repainted, as shown by the picture I took in July 1981.

Yep – the Hastings wing is still on the Elvington Queen Mary, or it was last tuesday!

re
Anyone have any leads on Hastings wings? So it can be made a whole airframe again, or at least a tailfin.
Cees
I have not been to elvington for ages but last time i was there, they had the spare hastings wings on a trailer, parked near the gate before you get to the victor. any idea if they are still there?

Very nice – any more shots of the Hastings in its new scheme (or a link) please?
By: yakman - 19th December 2007 at 10:37
It is not a Yak 11… it may have been once but it certainly isnt now…. American engine, retractable tailwheel, too many prop blades and single seat canopy. I believe it calls itself a Yak 3UA.
They named it YAK3U PW in reference to the true 1945 yak3U that carried the ASH82 engine (the original had a wider wing than the yak3 and a shorter fuselage while really being heavier)
That new production Yak3U has been produced in Romania by the Capel family and has a yak11 wing .

Pagen01, Yes i have also read that “someone” at Dux “lost” the fin ! there are pics on airliners.net of her at LGW complete with fin ! I can remember it being there beside the main road. Funny that in those far off days it was just another fuselage to me, now it’s much more important and unique ! what a strange change of views ? (is that just another thing that comes with age)Keith.

Certainly couldn’t fit Hastings undercarriage, as Hermes used tricycle set up while Hastings is a tail dragger. I’m guessing the wings would be similar enough to fit to a museum example. It’s sad to think of all the Hastings that have been scrapped during the period that this Hermes fuselage has been in a collection.
BTW Keith nice pics, and I much prefer seeing them appear on the thread rather than via links, HOWEVER you might want to downsize pics slightly as you will quickly run out of your picture upload allocaton.

HP 81 and others, thanks for the comments, would it be possible to use hastings wings, engines, u/c etc ? what about the fin ? ? Now I’m sitting here dreaming of boyhood days !!! The only aircraft open at Dux on mon was concorde, others had access steps only ! maybe should have asked the man ? Keith.

Great pictures Keith. Looks like a good camera!
I thought they were going to open the Hermes to the public. Despite the lack of seats it’s surprisingly complete inside.S.B.

Ken, Is that a genuine LA-7 or a replica?
‘Genuine’ AFAIK – but probably made from parts of various a/c.
Anyone know for sure ???
