I well remember doing a low pass at Emden en-route to a show in Sweden with Lindsey Walton’s Nord 1002 Pingouin in Luftwaffe markings as a Bf108 Taifun complete with swastikas on the fin. This at the request of ATC who were profuse in their thanks but offered the advice not to land in Germany with the tail markings. In case of an unscheduled diversion we carried two squares of black fablon to slap over the swastika immediately after landing. Lindsey once took it to a show at Essen and I do not recall if he covered up the swastikas on that occasion.

The kill markings have not been covered up on any of Janie’s 3 trips to Germany. Only once has a member of the crowd been heard to comment on it. Can’t think of any legal requirement for visiting aircraft.

Good question, not completely sure of the legally correct answer but on her last trip to Germany (was it earlier this year Yak11Fan?) with ‘Big Beautiful Doll’ the kill markings were not covered up so maybe she just ‘got away with it’!

As has been mentioned…it would be great to see this beautie witha 190 and a new build 262!!!

Noooo, this was a 1/72 scale Buchon, not the Hobbycraft one. Which reminds me, I’m sure Kingkit here in the UK has some of those beasties in stock…! 😉

Daz, I built that same kit and the swastika on Major Foehn’s birds was there and doing well!

The G-BOML was in the early 90th at Berlin on the ILA. The swastika was removed. 😉

All PC-Games (like Return to castle Wolfenstein, World War 2 Fighters etc)
are totally cleared, no swastika allowed. Importing UK or american Versions is
forbidden.

I’ve seen this a lot with games like The Great Escape and Secret Weapons Over Normandy – when portraying things like Nazi flags, for instance, hanging outside buildings, or indeed on the tails of aircraft, it’s either represented by a cross (simple black and white one, or a Maltese-style one), or simply not there at all.

You get the idea, either way.

It was interesting to note, though, that when building a model of a Buchon with Battle of Britain movie markings not so long ago, the swastikas on the unit badges had been scratched off!! 😮 Even though it would have been little bigger than a pinhead! :rolleyes:

I have found this site in my Logfiles.
Nice to see how much people are active in this forum.

The Swastika in Germany is only allowed in Museums, and sometimes in films
when it is necessary for correctness.
If you paint a swastika on your Me 109 and take off, you will get
a lot of problems. Possibly you can lost your work. If you post a pic from Duxford (Anna Walker with Bücker)
you can also get problems. It is prohibited.

I hope I can see the Me 109 in Duxford, Flying Legends 2005.
The Airplane is at the moment more airworthy than the 2 planes
from the Messerschmitt-Foundation.
The first AirShow with the Me 109 in Germany would be in Oppenheim on 28/29. may 2005.
But the Flying Display in Germany isnt like the Flying Display in Duxford 🙁

It would be nice to see this machine at next years Legends alongside the RAC Buchon and the two Messerschmitt Foundation machines! 😀

The chap in the photo’s is indeed the same guy who was in the Robbie Coltrane programme.

And the programme with the incockpit footage from the OMFC Buchon & HAC’s Spitfire V was from the ‘Flightline’ series of programmes titled ‘Spitfire Breed’ which is shown here often on Discovery Wings.

Btw, If you want some good incockpit footage from a 109, then get the ‘Pilots Eye’ video which was filmed using Black 6 and hosted by Cliff Spink.

That AT-6 – it’s got the early model tail but the three-bladed prop. Anybody know anything about this? Like the markrings- NACA.

Actually, not to get to far off the ‘109G topic, I notice the AT-6 has a semi-retractable tail-wheel.
Is this like the “Zero” conversion ones?
