Phwoaa! Ryanair Ad causes excitment!

Has anyone considered the possibility that these people are actually just complaining about Ryanair generally ? 😀 :rolleyes:

ASA are obliged to follow up any complaints they receive, so yep, it would only take one letter to prompt an investigation of the Coke ads…..:D

As you say, it does seem “PC gone mad” that a half-naked bloke is seen as acceptable, when a fully clad (:diablo: ) young lady is not. In both cases one could argue that s+xual attraction is being implied, even if not explicitly stated. Of course, the (albeit tenuous) implication that might link the Ryanair ad to promoting sexualisation(can’t think of the correct word) of under-age schoolgirls might be seen as more worthy of ASA time and effort, but in tehory why is that any more offensive than a half-naked male?

Ultimately someone has complained about the Ryanair Ad, yet I suspect no-one has (yet) complained about the Coke ad.

And are either any more offensive than the Maltesers Ad where the girl pulls her top up and exposes her bra and breasts to the innocent guy walking past? Though that, of course, is seen as a harmless joke, whereas a young lady posing as a “schoolgirl” is not – the world’s gone mad:(

My god, we can have a muscle bound half naked man posing infront of a bunch of secretaries to advertise “Diet Coke”, and nobody complains, But a picture of a hot woman in a mini skirt and skimpy top………..

Maybe we should complain about them to the ASA 😮

I still haven’t had a reponse from Ryanair to the e-mail and letter I wrote asking why they hadn’t sent the calender I ordered. Needless to say I won’t be using their product again.

Ryanair has been “told” to remove this advertisement by the Advertising Standards Authority. Unfortunately for the ASA, they don’t have the power to tell anybody to do anything.

This ad was run in Ireland last year and was also the subject of complaints and criticism by the Advertising Standards Authority – report at

so Ryanair’s decision to use it again was clearly a calculated one.

Just to add……..a massive…..get this…………13 people complained……and to think how many people fly the airline.

Agree with you Mark, Ryanair had a prime spot on the BBC News site for some time today, i’m sure they’re not complaining!

That is the highest number of complaints I’ve ever seen the ASA actualy get! They normally investigate things just 2 or 3 people complain about! :rolleyes:

Ryanair has some very very clever people in its marketing department.

This advert isn’t designed to appeal or not appeal to certain target demographics. It is designed to create maximum exposure for the Ryanair brand, ensuring that everyone in the country is aware of the story.

The exact same thing happened in France earlier in the week when they had an advert featuring President Sarkozy. Sarkozy played right into their hands by having a massive rant at the airline and ensuring the story made the headlines.

Yet again another case of PC Britain going too far. 😡

People complained because the ad was offensive in their opinion and they had every right to do so. Their opinions are as valid as yours, mate. 🙂

I just think it’s rather sad and tacky, myself.
