Good points. I have to say that my favourite PIA scheme was the one worn by the B720s and Tridents with the stars on the tail and full airline name on the fuselage…although I still like the current one. Air India will meddle with their scheme at their peril I think.

I think if AI retains there window design and does something new to the fuselauge and the tail it would be a nice change.:)

Hey Interflug, I agree completely about the best PIA colorscheme. I think PIA should have a few jets in that scheme for it’s 50th anniversary…

The current PIA scheme was primarily designed with the A310 in mind and actually looks superb on it. However, it falls flat on a 747 and makes the aircraft look under-nourished 🙂

Similar situation with the Air-India colors. In the 70’s this color scheme was introduced with the induction of the 747s. The scheme truly makes the 747 look like a palace. However, the decal placement problems that someone had to go through when applying the paintscheme to A310’s and (uglier yet) to a Locheed Tristar become painfully obvious. On both 310 and tristars (when they were used), the trailing design from the tail onto the fuselage is rudely cut short -making the colorscheme look like it got it’s tail stuck in a trap and snapped. 😮

You’re kidding right??? Both the schemes of AI and PIA have become part of the national identities of the two nations concerned. Witness the national outcry in India at the time that AI tried to introduce that awful “corporate mess” of a livery a few years back…bland or what!! As for describing the current PIA scheme as a “green belly and three stripes near the neck of the aircraft” I think that is way too simplistic a description and overlooks the national and cultural aspects which I think is far too often overlooked these days. There are too many bland and two dimensional “schemes” that mean and seem to represent nothing blotting the aerial landscape nowadays and I hope that these two carriers don’t add to the pile. I might be old fashioned but I think that the current AI scheme is a work of art and is recognised all over the world, you’d have to work damn hard to achieve that again with current design trends.

Good news for PIA….Would have been nicer to see an A330 in that lovely scheme but I guess you can’t win ’em all.

Dry lease is aircraft only: Wet lease is aircraft and crew

Good news that will enable them to increase flight numbers.

When are they due to receive their first 777?
