I beg to differ Ant. I didn’t think it would be feasible either, as the mountings, exhausts and many other bits are completely different, but TFC have got a pair of late Hercs which they’ve been looking at very closely.
When I spoke to some TFC guys a couple of months ago they said they thought it was workable, and I think they said that they were looking at modifying their existing engine mounts to fit or manufacturing new ones. Sounds like a big job either way.
They’d also have to get a whole new exhaust system designed, as the late Hercs have a similar arrangement to the Centaurus, ie, rear facing exhausts, collecting to two outlets set on the side of the forward fuselage. This is radically different to the early Herc exhausts, which came forward to a collector ring and then out through a single large pipe down the outside of the nacelle. The pipework involved would be pretty complicated, and I presume very costly, but they were saying that they’ve already got someone looking at it.
Good luck to them!

It would’ve been nice if TFC could use post-war Hercs for thier Beaufighter project, but sadly they are markedly different to the war-time examples,so unfortunately it’s a no go.
Incidentally, does anyone know what became of G-BISU?

Bristol Freighter being dragged through the sky by a nice big pair of Hercs. Aren’t they the same late mark that TFC are hoping to use on their Beau? Can’t wait to hear what they sound like in the flesh.
