The Alitalia MD11 that went a bit over-board with it’s crosswind landing on Hong Kong 98? That thing catapulted around on it’s main gear like there was no tomorro!
Great pic by the way KabirT.
My grandma flew a CX 744 from MAN into Kai Tak a few years back. She said it was incredible watching people working in the offices and pegging washing out above you on the roof as you flew past!

Yeah, Kai Tak was a fun landing!
The worst bit was when the plane touched down, all you could see was seawater on all sides as the runway was essentially a pier!
Good fun in a crosswind!

I want to fly into Kai Tak… In a 747… I think it’d be fantastic!! Especially with the angle of bank of the first pic!!

If you wanted to see some scary landings at Kai Tak, then Alitalia would take 1st prize. Some of their MD-11’s were well below the glide slope on final approach, and they often used to touch down before the official landing area.

Great pic,passengers must of been scared stiff on landings like that (i hope there are passengers onboard this time and its not another cargo aircraft!)

Nice shot, but I still remember the Cathay Pacific Jumbo coming in over the the buildings, about 5m above them!
