It is usually SOP to have the logo lights on at night to make you more visible (especially on the ground) with the added benefit of advertising. I know one person who plans to set up a 767 operation out of Manston who has spoken to Boeing about leaving the fin painted white and replacing the logo lights with TV projectors to show a moving image on the fin of his aircraft!

very nice – and on the subject of tail illumination is it standard to have the tail lights on in flight or not? – certain airlines seem to use the system more than others, for example the B738s of BY and AEA a couple of years back used to fly a lot lower over here from further afield destinations that most a/c and they always seemed to have their tail illuminations on, but on other companies seem to vary – is there a SOP or is it pilots discretion!

Here’s another different type of shot featuring just the tails of two 777s; Malaysia Airlines and Emirates, taken at night. Very nice!

The other topic says it is currently closed so it is likely that the photo was taken some time ago. Check out Airliners.net, they have photos from several years ago right up until today.
