Agreed

I suppose they are about as Scottish an airline as Euromanx are Manx. Air Scotland appears to be only a booking agent chartering a foreign operated aircraft – similar to the Rossair euromanx operation.
You’ve hit the nail on the head, it’s a notional Scottish airline. A marketing device aimed at attracting Scottish customers to a Scottish orientated travel business.

Greece Airways, the Greek-Scottish interest airline, was founded in December 2003, and until now operates Air Scotland’s scheduled services from Glasgow to 7 destinations in Spain, whereas soon it will fly from Athens to Pakistan. It is noteworthy that for the summer period from 20-06-04 to 30-10-04, 61 airlines operate scheduled services to / from the Athens airport.

Ah, what the hey!! Mel Gibson isn’t even Australian, let alone a Scot. 😀
Off topic, but his accent was so bad it had to be entirely redubbed after shooting. A spark mate of mine worked on the movie and said the Scottish crew would p*ss themselves laughing everytime Mel opened his mouth. :p

Ever heard of the term “plausible deniability”, Ren??? 😉
It’s certainly plausible I have. So if Greece Airlines is advertising Athens Pakistan routes, it must be a “real airline”? When do they get a plane or two more then ? 😉

Greek registration, Greek owner, Greek AOC ergo: GREEK 😉
But Air Scotland is a Scottish airline/tour operator/business. The plane is Greek yes.
Fly Globespan is also a Scottish airline/tour operator/business even though many of it’s planes carry Icelandic reg’s.

And on the Athens airport website it says they will start to fly from Athens to Pakistan

Why put such a large Greece Airlines logo on the plane though ? Is Greece Airlines trying to market itself as an actual PAX carrying airline or just trying to get it’s name known as an ACMI business again ?
I’m sure any marketing expert would use the term “brand confusion” if he saw that plane at the airport ?

But, Scottish crews, scottish base ergo: SCOTTISH
Greek registration, Greek owner, Greek AOC ergo: GREEK 😉

Here’s my contribution to the photo fest…
AFAIK Greece Airlines was formed from the ashes of the failed ACMI operator Electra Airlines. It’s a trading name in other words ?
They only have this one plane don’t they which is on lease to Air Scotland?
As for my picture, anyone know where the captain’s buggered off too ? 😀
excellent photo sir!

Air-Scotland/Greece airways same airline, the only reason they have the Greece Airways thing is because of the Glasgow-Athens route
Wrong
Its because Greece Airways own the plane.
Greece Airways are a reformed Electra Airlines

Eh, I don’t think so, I think it’s because the 757 is owned by a Greek airline, called Greece Airways!
By: RIPConcorde - 4th September 2004 at 19:29
Nice one.
That’s a ‘proper’ Scottish airline: 😉

Your comments don’t fit this pic as well, but it’s still nice scenery. 😉
