I thought it looked like a 747 classic…the antenna on the wing suggested so…i don’t recall them on the 707 or DC8.

Nice (funny) pic! the number 4 engine looks almost ready to drop off as well!!

OK, found the info:

747-100 N625PL of American International / Kalitta on a ferry flight from Honolulu to Oscoda on April 26 1997.

Apparently a crack was found in an engine mount and they had to fly it to somewhere it could be replaced. The engine was removed and carried onboard!

Its definately a 747, that much I’m sure of.

I’ll try and find where I read it and supply more info.

I thought 747 also, the engine cowls look to large and wide for a 707 or DC-8.
Anyone out there got a definitive answer?

Actually I think its an early 747. I remember seeing this, I think it had to be shipped from Hawaii to somewhere in the US as they didn’t have the facilities in Hawaii. Couldn’t take passengers obviously but they had a special licence to take it to get a new engine.

I suspect it’s a DC-8, rather…

I Think the 707’s cowling was bigger than that.
