Anybody know how many 744’s are on the ground at Heathrow at any time

How about SIN, HKG, or even NRT, for that matter?

Do they not use Bangkok as well?

They do, but not as much as SIN. Not unlike BA, 1 of QF’s 2 SYD-LHR flights is via BKK. As far as I know, the rest of their Euro-action is via SIN, however.

Great shot, I was quite surprised at Qantas’ dominance at SIN when I passed through. At one point, there was a row of 5 QF744’s and 1 743 along the pier at Terminal 1. However, it doesn’t take much to work out why. This is the stopover for all flights between Europe and the Middle East and Australia.

Why not indeed ! 😀

Dude, you got room for camping on your back lot ? (lol) 😀 😉

I have a decent sized backyard. Are you guys going to bring some tents, or something? :p I was going to echo what Allen said about fares being cheaper in the non-summer months. Even going from here to say LHR, FRA, AMS, the more western Euro airports. Very cheap, provided you begin your travel before June 15, typically around $500-600 U.S. round trip. I don’t know what that is in pounds, but right around what you were making referrence to. You guys should check out United, also. Not that I’m being biased, but everytime I do an orbitz search going to the airports I was making reference to, they usually have some decent fares.

AA is £100 cheaper still.

Besides, I’ve flown the 757 plenty of times.

With Aa I’d get a 777!! woot!

Well, the CO website doesn’t allow a Direct GLA-EWR flight in february.

Heres what CO have to offer

GLA-AMS-LAX-AMS-GLA = $740.61. Thats £418.927 at current xchange rates

looked it up myself. It’s no longer a 73G on the EWR-LAX leg, CO now use a 757.

£411.90 including taxes from GLA
£415.90 including taxes from EDI

I always knew Edinburgh was more expensive than Glasgow… bloody tourist trap that it is 😉

Ok I did a wee bit of digging for airfares just to see what this trip would entail.
I couldn’t check out flights for April as that more that 330 days away. So I used February as an example. Outbound Feb 10th, Inbound Feb 21st. Here’s what I found

BA: (Direct) LHR-LAX-LHR = £364.10 in all taxes (B747)
VS: (Direct) LHR-LAX-LHR = £354.10 in all taxes (B747)

And, on Opodo.co.uk I found

AA: 1 stop LHR-JFK-LAX-JFK-LHR = £315.00 (B777, B762)

Well, at £400 return JUST for the airfare… I’m not sure I can afford a spotting trip to LAX, although beleive me I’d love to!

I got a return from GLA-DUB-LAX for £299 plus taxes, about £360 all in. That was booked online and about two months ahead of travel. June, July and August are all expensive, it gets better in September. I’ll be too busy this year but defo thinking of next spring for it.
