Thought I’d share these pics with you while the event is still fairly fresh in mind (although the tragic accident in Duxford also very much present).
This event can safely be termed the RIAT of continental Europe. 250,000 spectators over two days. Each day had a 10 hr flying programme with everything possible in the air, including five aerobatic jet teams. My visit was however marred by incompetent trafic control which resulted in my missing much of the flying. Didn’t enjoy the crowds either, you couldn’t even get near some of the static aircraft.
Let’s start with that well-known aircraft in the unmentionable paint scheme (the event was sponsored by Red Bull). I hate it too, but it resulted in the aircraft being exposed to a lot of people who would not have seen it without this sponsorship:

I know, but I can not enter Flugzeugforum anymore. They don’t accept my codeword anymore and when they gave me a new one, it is refused again. We now also have a forum in Holland now. It is on the Aviodrome site. So far I am the only one on it I think. Give it a search under “Aviodrome” if you are interested. The site is in English en German also, and the forum is half Dutch, half English, but who cares, we from Holland speak all the languages more or less.

I am also considering going to Eggebeck and Bielefeld
Have never been to either of them – suppose a lot of your countrymen are going to the former… 😀 You are probably aware that you can read everything you want to know about the former event in the German Flugzeugforum ?

Thanks Kenneth, it took me an hour to find the pics. Like your S58 shot. That chopper is the main target for us to go to Hahnweide. I am also considering going to Eggebeck and Bielefeld. Have you been there? I’ll let you know if I come, and we can meet. I am now packing for Chambley but my Eos-10D, not even a week old, broke down, and only works on MF now. 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 BW Roger

Thanks for the praise TallyHo and Roger!
Yes, I intend to be at the Hahnweide. It has however some disadvantages for photographers:
1) The spectators’ area is on the northern side of an essentially east/west extending rwy, so you have the sun against you.
2) Aircraft are usually parked tight along the entire crowd line, so static photos and shooting taxying a/c succesfully is not easy and requires some luck. I’ve never tried it but could be worthwhile having a walk around the airfield perimeter to get a better location. There’s a nice backdrop to the east with a hill with a castle on top of it. Have a look at airliners.net, the photos there give you a reasonable impression of the conditions.
3) If the weather is nice the spectators area can be quite packed (space is generally at a premium on the Hahnweide).
Let me know if you go, maybe we could meet up!

Nice pics Kenneth. Just a question. Are you planning to go to Hahnweide in September. I have to chose between Duxford or Hahnweide. How are the photo opertunities there, and how is the light? Whatever I choose it is a suicide mission anyway as saturday I ‘ll have to go to Lelystad ( Connie ????) , and after that it is a race to either Germany (car) or Duxford (737). BW Roger

Excellent ‘photos, Kenneth.
I saw the Eurofighter last year at Farnborough….put on a good show, liked the Gripen as well.

Red bull seem to have a hand in everything. There seems to be so many aircraft with the logos on. Next thing will be Red Bull Airways.
The Eurofighter… now thats some power there… I remember seeing one at Farnborough last year… Stunning display!
Great pics again Kenneth.

Thanks for the praise!
@A330crazy: Yes, that was the show in Zeltweg
@Damien: Like your pictures too…:D
I enjoyed the show for the variety of a/c and the backdrop, and for the fact that I did not face the sun. However, traffic and crowd management was awful, and there were lots of obstacles in your way when taking pictures. These included giant loudspeakers blasting rock music in the air non-stop the entire day (the Draken formation shown above was inaudible due to the music… 😡 )

And finally, an Italian Eurofighter protoype (DA7), a very controversial aircraft in Austria which is intended to replace the lovely Draken. Hope you enjoyed the pics!

Red Bull Aerobatic Team in Zlin 50 from the Czech Republic. One a/c is rolling around the two in mirror formation….

In 1996 a Draken was given special c/s to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the first documented mention of Austria, or “Ostarichi” which is what the lettering says:

Great pictures Kenneth, cheers. I take it this was the show at Zeltweg?
Great shot of the Beluga too! 😀

The last operational Drakens are in Austria – and they will be gone next year. Very impressive aircraft which I like a lot!
