Here are some photos (and a report) of my recent trip to Belgium.
The first photo shows a Lufthansa Avro RJ at London City, taken on 31st August 2003.

I’m glad the “States of Guernsey” could provide you with such an excellent service. I wasn’t aware that we were supporting two airlines now 🙂
Anyhow, some nice pictures there.

Mort Subite is a nice beer. It’s sweeter than other lambics (such as Cantillon for example) and easier to obtain. I enjoy the Gueuze and Frambozen varieties most.

I think I know what old git means. I think he means “Mort Subite“. Haven’t tried it myself but seen it at work, I work at a beer whole saler. All that beer, and I can’t drink it… 🙁
You’ll probably know this site, but I’ll post the link anyway. It seems to have a rather comprehensive list with Belgian beers.

That’s interesting Old Git, I spent my holiday in Mechelen (wonderful place if you excuse all the dug up roads and squares!!) and the brewery there is Het Anker, it brews Gouden Carolus, which is a good beer. I couldn’t find anything about La Mort in any of my books.

Thats a beer I have not heard of – years ago I used to drink La Mot or Le Mot?? which I think is Belgian – nice beer too.
I know this is off topic Comet but I did a bit of research and I found a reference to it (La Mot) on www.beerhunter.com on a page by Michael Jackson entitled “The Family Business is alive again”. It was brewed in Mechelen but taken over by Interbrew so it has probably disappeared – Shame:(

Thanks for all your comments everyone. I had a great time, weather was good, apart from a thunderstorm on the Saturday!
A330Crazy – I don’t mind being entered in your spotting competition, it was nice to go and do some spotting, I never normally get chance!
Kev – I’m glad you liked the London photos, taking off from LCY offers some great views, and the approach does too, if you land at the end nearest to the terminal you see the London Eye, Big Ben etc very close!
Old Git – that Sloeber beer is rare, even in Belgium. I brought some back to drink at Christmas. Maybe the beer you are thinking of is Mort Subite?

Great report and Pics Comet. Glad you had a good time.
Hope you don’t mind, but for your spotting efforts I have entered you into my spotting comp?
Cheers. 🙂

Comet.
Welcome back. Some good photos there, particularly like the ones of London just after take off. Just knew there’d be a photograph of your favourite beer. 🙂
Glad you had a good time.

My return flight from Antwerp to London City (VG111) was on 10th September.
Antwerp is a dead and alive airport, with one eating place, one shop, no duty free, no viewing area!!
My flight was operated by OO-VLS “City of Manchester”. I was in seat 4A, and had a good view of the propellers and landing gear. The aircraft didn’t have leather seats. We had quite alot of cloud on this flight. The crew were good.
The approach into London City was superb, with the aircraft going into a characteristic Fokker nose-dive approach over the River Thames, the pilot pulling up at the last minute to land smoothly on the runway of London City.

This is the reason I love to visit Oudenaarde!!

And this SN Brussels Avro RJ.

After the Royal Jordanian aircraft, we moved to a different bit, closer to the runway end.
That’s where my mum took this Aer Lingus BAe 146.

My Mum took this photo of a Royal Jordanian Airbus, from the same place.

Spotting near the end of the Brussels Airport runway. I took this photo of an SN Brussels Airlines A319 as it approached.

The VLM in-flight snack. It consisted of: a sesame bun with cheese, a flaky pastry thing with chocolate chips, a square of chocolate and I had orange to drink. On the return flight it was another cheese sandwich, a fresh fruit salad and a can of Maes beer.
(If my Belgian friends from a certain other forum are viewing this, I apologise for the poor quality of the photo!!)
