Makes a nice news story, the idea of a traveller taking a photo just at the moment their aircraft is struck by lightning. But this seems like too much of a co-incidence, my bet is the picture is a still from a video. :p

Good catch there, it looks like it hit the elevator. Years ago I was flying a Beech 58 in IMC at night and had the most amazing St Elmo’s fire, the whole exterior of the plane lit up with a eerie green glow, including the circumference of the props. There were arcs of green electricity (like you see in a plasma ball) all across the windshield. The phenomenon lasted two or three minutes. Unfortunately I didn’t have a camera.

Wow! Nice shot. I was onboard an Easyjet A320 a few years ago, which had a lightning strike.
