Hard to believe people are hating on him just because he has further access than us normals. This may explain it…?
I can probably understand where you are coming from with the quote above – after reading all his comments about his own photos, I think he needs to stick more to the facts, as he seems to be coming off as “rubbing it in” to the casual observer.
Hardly read comments, but what things does he say?

Too be honest he’s a very rich dude who spends his life travelling the world and airports (nice!) but that’s why he pulls these shots off. He has the time, the money and the equipment.
Ah!
Thanks, this was the sort of answer I was looking for.
Yep!
Kinda’ makes you jealous don’t it? :p

I don’t mean this in too much of a disrespectful way to Mr Chui, but I’m reasonably certain there are people on this very forum who given the money to buy a Nikon D2x, some very serious lenses and a private plane flying over LAX, would be able to get similar shots. I can’t deny some of his photos are superb, but I don’t consider him to be a particularly artistic photographer, and I’m certainly not convined by his ‘God-like’ status in certain aviation photography circles.
Then again, each to their own I suppose…

I quite agree. 😉
What makes Sam’s shots so unique is the fact he goes where most of us can’t to take shots (up in the sky). Yes they are nice shots, I’m extremely jealous of the lifestyle Mr Chui appears to have, but I’d like to see his efforts captured in the more mundane mode of skulking around airport perimeter fences looking for a decent hole to shoot through. 😮 😀

I take it the Nikon D2x is an expensive piece of machinery? I’m curious as to what some of the commentary from the Sydney forum is. I’ve done some spotting/photography there a few times.
Yup. The D2x is almost 3000 quids worth of camera for the body alone. A friend of mine (ex professional press photographer) has one and it’s an amazing piece of kit. Very nice to play with every once in a while!

Some of the comments about him from the Sydney Spotting forum are not always so favourable. I met him over at SYD a while back and have my own thoughts  He does take some cracking pics though!
you know what – I just visted that link to his photos on a.net and, yes they are good, but of course they should be given that kind of access.

I think a lot of people who bash him probably are just jealous that they can’t travel like he does and want to pull of the shots like him and can’t.

Yeah he was. I heard off my friend that he starts his Russian tour tommorow!
Are people following his progress or something?!

He’s a photographer on A.Net who seems to get very dramatic and awesome shots. Hes well recognised because he gets loads of Photo Of The Day’s on there.

Forgive the “Stoooopid” question. 😮
But who is Sam Chui?
Is he just an amateur photographer, professional, airline official etc?
And what do you mean by Locations?
Does he just take “Off the Cuff” photo’s from various positions, or has he access to his own Aircraft/Helicopter, as part of his job etc?
I ask because his shots ARE excellent, and I just wondered if it was his profession rather than just an enthusiastic amateur.
I said it was a stupid question.

To be honest many of you guys could take as good if not better photographs given access to his locations.

Great photo in that it is of one of my favourite airlines, but as you will see from my posts in other similar ‘Sam Chui’ threads I agree with T5 and Bemused55.

That’s an excellent picture……how could anybody get sick of that type of shot???
By: Bmused55 - 13th June 2006 at 07:36
It’s a great picture. But Sam Chui is getting a bit “same same” now.
