Picture of unknown KIA crew member !

Here I have a picture of a killed crew member, found in the original papers of Kiel War Cemetary of 1943.

This person is unknown, the picture was found by the corpse.
Date of dead : 04.04.1943
Place of dead: Kiel / Germany

I think it is a british, canadian, or australian soldier.

One possible way to track down what unit he was with is to check escape/evasion photos where the men are wearing the same clothes. In many instances on USAAF bases (I can’t say if it was the same with RAF bases) there weren’t alot of civilian clothes available and nearly every man was photographed wearing the same suit and tie.

The Luftwaffe had files where they could determine what group a pilot/crewman was from in this manner. If you can find a unit that was active in the area on that date whose escape/evasion photos all match what the man in the photo is wearing it could narrow things down fairly quickly.
