[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-08-02 AT 10:46Â AM (GMT)]I think I already posted it some time ago … this was Yakovlev’s attempt for the Russian MFI competition which was later won by Mikoyan with it’s 1.42/1.44 (the other contender was the Sukhoj S-32/S-37 and now Su-47) !
see: page 10 from the book “Sukhoi S-37 and Mikoyan MFI” from Yefim Gordon (Midland Publishing, 2001)
In an other book (Page 39: “Yakovlev’s V/STOL Fighters”, John Fricker & Piotr Butowski, Aerofax, 1995) it is written:
“…. . These design features were embodied in a very advanced concept for the early 1980s, in the form of the Yak-43, or Izdelye 201, designed around the supersonic Tupolev Tu-160 ‘Blackjeck’ bomber’s massive 244.65 kN (55,00lb) Kutznyetsov NK-32 turbofan. This was to be used as a lift/cruise unit with a vectoring nozzle and additional thrust from forward vertical combustion chambers, with which extensive ground runnings has been achieved. ….”
Does anyone know if this engine was the engine proposed for the MFI-contender or was this Yak-43 the basis of the Yak-MFI ???
