Here’s an interesting little subject that seems to have been forgotten about and if any forum member can tell me where I can find more info then I’d certainly appreciate it. I’m keen to find films, manuals, equipment specs or stories regarding the exploits of RAF pigeons. Iv’e already found some great stories of aircrew survival and even the idea of them being trained to carry out explosive suicide attacks against German search lights.
The more info that i find the more bizarre the stories become, with pigeons being trained to take aerial photos and the possibility of them deploying explosive and even bacterial weapons.
Would really like to see more info on the yellow aircraft bird boxes if anyone can help? One interesting story i came across was that the Germans used to look for the bird boxes at crash sites like we do the black box nowadays, because they acted like ovens during the post crash fire and they could guarantee finding a good meal out of it.
Thanks.
