OK, here we go..
Arrived at PIK about 1hr 45mins before departure to be greeted by a thunderstorm 😮 , checked-in sone after only to be given sequence number 105! 😮 The main check-in area at PIK could do with a major refurb as I’m sure anyone who’s experienced it would agree. As well as a rectangular piece of wood with ‘FR418’ we had an A4 piece of paper with the flight details printed off onto it as an indication of what desks to use! 😀 You have to wait in the departure lounge with a view of precisely nothing until your flight is called where you then go straight through and board, so no gates to wait at as such.
FR418 19th October
Boeing 737-800 EI-CTA http://www.airliners.net/open.file/331287/L/
ETD: 1340
ETA: 1450
Actual: Can’t remember, on-time. 🙂
Although the thunderstorm had long gone, the weather was still pretty bad so no photos to begin with, boarded in the second batch after 1-65, queueing to get up the front stairs so ‘speed walked’ to the rear stairs where there was no-one(!) and took a seat in 23F, perfect! 😀
To our left was EI-DAZ which had arrived from Gothenberg about 20mins beforehand. We pushed back and were introduced to our cabin crew, they were all foreign(Spanish I think) and their English was far from great so most the time I was unsure of what they were trying to say to the passengers.
Pushed back and taxiied to r/w 13 for a swift take-off, no stopping, and soon enough we were blasting skywards. but before you could complement the excellent views of the ayrshire countryside we entered the thick blanket of cloud that had been hanging over PIK all morning.
A couple of minutes later we burst through it to reveal that clear blue sky that symbolises flying! 😀

Here’s a spotting tip: If you take the right hand exit off that A77 roundabout in your picture (between the two white vans) and follow it to a little farm road junction turning left. You’ll find yourself directly under the 31 approach and can experience a 747 coming right overhead at around 100ft ! 😮

As Ren Frew said, they were selling onboard. 🙂
I never knew it was possible to do so much plane spotting from the cabin window either? I guess that’s what happens when you approach one of the busiest sectors in the world.
It can be quite a breathtaking sight!

Where did you get the little model …on board or at PIK ?
I have only seen Ryanair models in their old livery. Im gonna get one…. 🙂
They were selling them on board when I flew last month.

Ren Frew, feel free to do that Moderator trick of yours, transfer forums? 🙂
I may just do that tomorrow some time ? 😀
Good report, sorry you didn’t get a 732. I think those chances are going to quite dramatically fall in the next couple of weeks to be honest?
There’s been quite a bit of activity on the 732 front at PIK these past few days, with more arrivals and certain examples being towed back from the northside apron for pre-sale preparatory work at the Ryanair hangar.

Well, for less than £20 return I can’t complain! 😀 😉

LOL, thanks. Not got anymore lined up for this year I’m afraid, but there are many other members on this forum who are more than capable of putting together a mighty fine trip report. LOL

Through arrivals with no problems and it was goodbye PIK, stuck in the 1960s a good airport never-the-less, although I’m a bit disappointed they’ve closed the viewing terrace. 🙁

The end. 😎
