Why do such intelligent responsible people have a brain fade like that
By: KabirT - 26th February 2008 at 06:34
Either there is something we are not being told..because i find it hard to believe that a chief 777 pilot with the chairman on board would suddenly decide to wear his tom cruise attire and buzz the tower..unless he spotted a nice women around.
if not…. then i guess plain stupidity took over.

RIP Tex Johnston
And he was doing 322 mph (apparently!)
Yeah really dangerous for seagulls 😮 Squaark!
Another useless piece of information, but the 757 is limited to 250 knots VMO below 10,000ft because the windshield isn’t strong enough. Nobody told this guy:

Somebody give this guy an AOC and call it Thrill Air….
I’d buy the ticket

…..This is the real world, not Flight Simulator :diablo:.
Exactly.
And in the real world, people who do silly things with large airliners while the company Chairman is on board usually have to face the consequences.
As in this case…….

Putting the frighteners on the Chairman is never a good career move. 😎
Especially when you consider what happened the last time a 777 flew that close to the ground…

I’m sure Bud Holland would be proud
By: lukeylad - 25th February 2008 at 23:29
He was apparently the chief 777 pilot for the airline so he must have had the sense to get permission to conduct such a pass. Either he didn’t or there is something we have not been told.
By: Future Pilot - 25th February 2008 at 22:53
I don’t think he got permission fotr a fly-by and certainly not that low to the deck!
And he was doing 322 mph (apparently!)
THATS LOW!!!
H
He must of got permission, I’m sure this high up the ranks Captain didn’t just get take off clearance from the tower and then without asking them do a full circle and do a low pass by the runway….
This is the real world, not Flight Simulator :diablo:.

I think its stupid that he got fired he was only doing a low pass  .

…..The reason I fear something is missing is because if the Chairman was onboard……

It’s an odd story this one and feel as if something is missing. Firstly I think it’s very unfair to sack the man for doing something so memorable for this delivery flight and at no point do I think he would put himself, anyone else or the aircraft itself into danger.
The reason I fear something is missing is because if the Chairman was onboard I don’t think he would of just done it without asking first, if he was so high up in the company and as the article puts it very “chummy” with the airline execs which presumably includes the Chairman you would of thought.
Then again if he asked the Chairman that’s not the same as asking the correct people like FAA or the Hong Kong equivilent, it’s a very sad situation someone with such experiance and who is an ambassador for his profession is made to leave it in such cirumstances.
Hopefully he get’s his job back or finds employment with another airline.
