Pilot forced in to crash landing
The pilot reported he was unable to lower the undercarriage
An investigation has begun after a light aircraft was forced to crash land at Liverpool airport.
The plane’s pilot, who escaped uninjured, radioed the airport he was unable to lower the undercarriage.
Emergency crews at Liverpool John Lennon Airport were put on alert as the plane, with only the pilot on board, landed just before 0200 BST on Tuesday.
The airport was closed for three hours after the incident, but later re-opened and is now operating normally.
Merseyside Police were also called in after reports the plane’s undercarriage had failed to lower.
Airport spokesman Robin Tudor said: “The airport was closed for three hours following the incident but fortunately it only affected one incoming EasyJet flight from Palma, which was delayed.
“The airport was reopened just after 5am and it is now business as usual.”

What a ballache he was – how inconsiderate causing LPL to close when it’s our busy period! C’est le vie!
P.s. i like how only 1 easyjet flight was delayed – forgot to mention 2 748s stuck in BFS inbound, and 5 early morning 748 departures delayed as well!!!
