i have just been looking at a flight for a friend ..
TCX174K, it departed late, it is now heading south, although it is going to cayo coco.
what do you think is happening?

i have found out what was happening, Hurricane Francias was over the Bahamas, therefore the pilot had to take a different route.
Perhpas they would follow the South African east coast, skip over to the South American continent and come from behind the hurricane.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a random route in the oceanic area if it suits your operation. There are many reasons why that aircraft is heading south, probably the most likely of which is that the tracking web site is in error.

Also take into account the curvature of the earth. It may look like it is headed south whereas it actually is probably closer to SW or SSW. Besides, there are dedicated flight lines. From the UK to Spain, Spain to the Canaries, Canaries to Central America.
Also, is it a direct flight?

probably a change in the winds neccessitating a different nat track?
