Pilot image

Whadja reckon guys / gals…will the aytipical image of a pilot (you know…Irvin Flying Jacket, tussled blonde hair poking out from under a sheepskin flying helmet, and a white silk scarf proudly hanging out at right angles) ever be replaced by the the modern day ‘Borg’ image presented by your local F16 / whatever Jock ?

Cheers

RE: Pilot image

This question really extends from the overall greater question, is classic civil aviation giving way to the speed/power race as military aviation has. This is most evident in modern aerobatic aircraft like the sukoi 26, extra 300 and christian eagle. All these aircraft are meant to utilize very high power to achieve the maximum speed and turn rate. But is this really better? My favorite aerobatic plane is the zlin 326 and I believe is really a better aircraft from an aerodynamic standpoint in that it relys on aerodynamics rather that power.

heres a pic of the zlin

RE: Pilot image

I reckon he’s end up plugging his ‘Speed Jeans’ into the radio and getting a squeeze every time he transmitted. Don’t know what his dog would think of his outfit either !

Mind you, saying that, it would appear that there are quite a number of relatives of PO / FO Prune still around these days (Probably find that one was in the pointy end of the recent de-ruddered Concorde and his excuse was he got leg cramp (DVT ?) and streched his legs without thinking !!!)

Cheers

RE: Pilot image

Hmmmm. It would be interesting to see a representation of Pilot Officer Prune from Tee Emm in modern flying clothing. Wonder whether he’d have the same impact, (Pun intended)
