Hoping for some help on the detective front.
At the Ferrymead Aeronautical Society we’ve just received the attached framed and signed print. It came to us from the family of Des Melbourne who was a 487 Sqn Mosquito pilot and who was an old friend of our group prior to his death a few years back.
Des told us that he had exchanged the print for a similarly autographed one of a Mosquito as he and his navigator had become firm friends of the crew of Shoo Shoo Baby. Apparently they had several poker sessions together and Des’s navigator won a camera which he used to take pictures of our Mosquito HR339, and which we’ve now received.
We’ed like to decipher the pilot’s name from the endorsement on the print and if possible track him down. I’ve trawled about a bit but to no avail yet. We’re told the pilot was of polish extraction which we assume will be reflected in the name.
Any pointers would be a great help.

looks like the signature is that of Paul Mc Duffie, her first pilot.

Bob Geunther was the pilot who flew her into internment, but at that time she had been renamed “Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby” after the original pilot had stopped flying her. I suggest the signee might be that original pilot Ken Burkhart who once had the following e-mail address: burkhart3739@msn.com
