Pilot Officer Robert Bernard Bowran

Another grave I visited today is that of Flying Officer Robert Bernard Bowran, (Pilot), RAFVR, who died on the 27th of May, 1942, aged 27. It seems he was a pilot on Defiant II aircraft with 96 Squadron operating out of Wrexham.

Again, can anyone help with information on his career or the circumstances of his death?

Radar Archive.

Yes I think it is just coincidence. Thanks for the information though. Old Camp Road Ranges borders Cannock Chase which is obviously why he was buried there. The Cemetary was already extant as it holds a number of burials from the Great War, the majority of whom were New Zealanders who succumbed to influenza while at nearby Brocton Camp. Interestingly, although the German Military Cemetery is only a couple of hyndred yards away, the Commonwelath Cemetery provides a final resting place for perhaps as many as one hundred German casualties of the Great War.

Here’s a more general view of the Commonwealth Cemetery.

Thanks again,

Kev,

I don’t know if it’s co-incidence, but the query has just been dealt with on the RAF Commands bulletin board, here:
