Pilot Training in Ireland

My ambition is to become a commercial pilot. I was wondering if there are any sites around Ireland where I can train to receive a Commercial Pilots License or whatever is needed to fly “Heavies” and also the kind of grades needed for the job. Cheers in advance

Waterford seemed to have a half-decent yet small set up when I was there last year.

Hi,

I don’t know of any schools in Ireland, bar Eglington Airport which has a club for PPL’s.

You don’t need any qualifications from school, uni, etc, etc. It helps but who cares if you have higher English or Biology – as long as you can fly, then your in.

You need a PPL and Class 2 Medical (better to get a Class 1 if you intend to go commercial) That costs about £5k – 9k.

You then have to hour build to 150 hours (you will already have a min of 45) before you can go for your CPL, the cost varies greatly, depending on where you hour build. Roughly £7k- 10k for hour build and £4k for the CPL.

An Instrument rating is needed next, this costs about £11-13k, again depending on where you go.

Before the CPL and I/R you will have to pass your Ground School, which will cost about £1800 plus exams @ £40 per exam (12 I think).

That’s the way I’m going, but you can go on a fully integrated course, same content only quicker and possibly more structured. These courses are about £15k – 20k more expensive.

You may have to do your own MCC and Type rating, maybe about £10k 🙁

All being equal it should cost between £24 and £35 k, excluding the MCC and Type Rating.
