Piper Cub G-BHZA

Looking for info and piccies relating to Piper Cub G-BHZA (s/n 11883). I know it was built in 1944, I know it was in Ireland in 1984, and I know it had its registration cancelled in 1989.

But thats it I’m afraid. Any info or pictures would be much appreciated. The aircraft in question is about to undergo a restoration to flying condition and I’d really like some history to go with it.

Any personal archives out there likely to have captured her in her prime?

Go to www.aviationarchaeology.com and you can get the individual aircraft record card for $50 with translation. The card will probably have the manufacturers number on it so you can cross reference with the USAAF serial.

As I said if it looks like it may have an ETO combat history let me know as I may have a picture of it.

Well it appears that s/n 11841 to 12340 were built as L4Hs with serials running 44-79545 to 44-80044.

If these were allocated sequentially then s/n 11883 would be 44-79587.

I’m awaiting some more feedback from Piper.

Hi,

If this Cub was built for the military as an L-4 do you have it’s military serial number? if so have you got it’s US Military record card? I have some details of L-4’s used by the US Army/AAF in the ETO but would need the serial to see if I have anything on it.

Regards,

Garry.
