Anyone out there know of any Provost airframes which may be available at a sensible price? Whatever happened to the ones Barry Parkhouse had ex. Sandtoft?
Thanks,
George

Thank you also gentlemen, I’m familiar with the general use of corrugated or embossed stiffeners but the Provost was originally designed with them but many airframes were later modified and I needed some clarity and this is the place to ask.

The Piper Cherokee range had similiar tailplanes(stabiliser’s)

Not that it’s any help but Henry Millicer, who was one of the designers of the Piston Provost, also designed the Victa Airtourer. He used the corrugated panels on those as I found to my cost when I washed mine yesterday afternoon. They are quite sharp. The first all-metal Airtourer flew in Dec 1961 to give an idea of timescale

Hi John
The controls were changed to smooth skin with internal strengtheners in August 1954 under mods 189, 201 & 202. Not all aircraft were so modded and strangely, they stayed with the ribbed controls for the Jet Provost series.

What ever happened to XF914 I had a good few years as owner
before she moved on via one bearded and alusive Scottish gentleman
to Southern Parts but that was many, many years ago.She was complete and we ground ran her on a regular basis.

Sleap Provost
Good to hear she’ll be getting the attention she needs. From what I’d seen of her she wasn’t suitable for our needs.

We have a right hand shroud (and left but it is damaged). You are welcome to come and remove from our spare canopy at Shoreham. You won’t believe this we just skipped all the perspexes we removed from our Provost when replacing ours with newly manufactured ones! Call me first on 07802 523344

Piston Provosts
We’re still after an airframe. One of the ex. imperial aviation group aeroplanes was quoted as available for circa £15K, a large sum for a project airframe.
One will turn up, it doesn’t have to be in great shape.

Hi,
I’ve only skim read this thread but I believe there a
number of these aircraft in Malaysia, although many
may only be a parts source now.
Don’t know how you might start looking for them.

Am interested in airframe spares for Provost. I still have piston Provost 177 ex Irish Air Corps. In 1991 had three airworthy Provosts, 177, WV666 and XF877. We are just putting 177 into 6FTS colours and will be back in the air in about 3 months time.
Do you have a list of spares? We have a sizeable holding including most of the Irish Air Corps stock.
